PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Top Dog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akira Maeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Top Dog!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Akira Maeda!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dog gets caught flat footed, as Maeda shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Dog controls Maeda momentarily but Maeda frees himself.
Maeda postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Dog pushes Maeda off and scrambles back to his feet.

Maeda clinches.
Maeda looking to throw knees to the head but Dog is blocking nicely.
Maeda is trying to break the clinch but Dog is controlling him.
Dog fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Maeda breaks from the clinch.
Maeda tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dog swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Akira Maeda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maeda wants to clinch.

Maeda fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Dog sprawls well initially but Maeda persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Dog keeping hold of Maeda's head, controlling as best he can.
Dog regains full guard. Nicely done.

Dog had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Maeda defends it easily.
Dog throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Dog is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Maeda makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Maeda gets to his feet - Dog follows without any prompting.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Maeda.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Maeda rushes Dog and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Maeda missing with knees to the body.
Dog tries to pull guard but Maeda holds him up against the ropes and eventually Dog drops back down to his feet.
A short right from Maeda on the inside.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Maeda tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Dog avoids it.
Dog lands a knee to the body.
Dog jumps guard but Maeda stands there with Dog around his waist. Dog gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Top Dog. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Maeda is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Dog is defending well for now.

Dog jumps into guard, dragging Maeda to the mat.
Dog is trying to control the position but Maeda postures up.

Dog has a closed guard, preventing Maeda from standing up.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Maeda postures up.

Dog had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Maeda defends it easily.
Maeda must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Dog is working an open guard so Maeda takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Maeda tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Dog paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Maeda is trying hard to land a takedown here. Dog sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Maeda looks gassed!

Maeda throws the kick towards the body but Dog avoids it.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

and Dog moves into the clinch.
Maeda goes for a takedown attempt but Dog pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

so Maeda counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Dog is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Maeda avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Dog is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dog looking for a triangle here. Maeda is fighting it but it looks tight! Dog pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Maeda is tapping out - this one is all over!
