PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between rick ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Scoop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, rick ross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeff Scoop!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Scoop shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Scoop missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
ross regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Scoop.
ross not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Scoop wanted to stand there but ross had control of the position.

Scoop is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! ross is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! ross has escaped and now he's on top!

ross thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Scoop looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but ross puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Scoop is trying to stand back up but ross is controlling him
Scoop really doesn't want to stay on the ground with ross. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Scoop wants to sweep but ross has passed to side control!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Scoop is looking to regain half guard here but ross keeps moving and retains side control.
Scoop is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on ross's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Scoop wants to control the action here but instead ross manages to pass to full mount!
Scoop tries to reverse the position but ross maintains control.

ross working for a submission but Scoop is keeping him at bay.
ross is breathing heavily.

ross is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Scoop can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Scoop wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Scoop tries to roll but ross sticks to his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Scoop looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scoop tries to break free.
Scoop trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
I really don't envy Scoop right now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that rick ross will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from ross.
ross tries a head kick but it misses.
Scoop tries to clinch there but ross circles away.

Scoop shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in ross's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Scoop trying to control the position from guard on top but ross is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Scoop must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Scoop throws a big right hand that misses.
ross controls Scoop momentarily but Scoop frees himself.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Scoop looking to sit in guard and control but ross gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Scoop is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Scoop manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. ross manages to get himself to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Scoop postures up in ross's guard and throws a big left but ross blocks it.

Scoop is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Scoop wants to stand but ross is controlling his posture from full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Scoop.

Scoop swings around for an armbar but ross sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Scoop's guard.

Scoop looking to control but ross passes into half guard.
Scoop wants to get back to his feet.
Scoop is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Scoop makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Scoop.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Scoop showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Scoop looking to control.
Scoop wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and ross is now in half guard.

Scoop keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Scoop pushes ross off looking to stand but ross dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are battling for position here. Scoop manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Scoop looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

ross drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and ross jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Scoop is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Scoop throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

ross is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

ross drops back looking for a leg! Scoop is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Scoop manages to kick ross off! ross jumps back into Scoop's guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Scoop fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. ross sprawls well initially but Scoop persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Scoop tries to pass to full mount but ross defends it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Scoop seems to be working for a kimura but ross defends the submission attempt.
ross is trying is best to control the position here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Scoop seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
ross regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Scoop.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jeff Scoop comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Scoop has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
