PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Skippy McGee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trello Kingston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Skippy McGee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Trello Kingston!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Donatello Bradman and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGee throws an overhand right that lands on Kingston's shoulder, as Kingston tries to avoid the shot.
Kingston takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Nice sprawl there from Kingston as McGee shoots in.
A solid body kick from Kingston.
McGee moves in looking to clinch but Kingston pushes him off.
Kingston misses with a takedown attempt
and McGee counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Kingston doesn't manage to clinch there - McGee circles away.
McGee showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Kingston.
Kingston tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Kingston closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kingston is pressing down on McGee's thigh, looking to free his foot. McGee is holding on for now.
Kingston content to control rather than advance.
McGee gets full guard.

Kingston trying to control but McGee is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McGee is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Kingston is working McGee over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kingston is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Kingston wants to pass the guard but McGee is keeping the position.
McGee throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
McGee looking for a sweep. Not yet McGee, not yet.

McGee is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Kingston is stalling in the full guard.

McGee has momentary wrist control but Kingston slips an elbow through the middle.
Kingston stays in close to McGee's body and controls the position.
Kingston must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kingston controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
I looks like Kingston might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kingston missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Kingston wants to control from the top but McGee keeps moving.
McGee is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
McGee manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Trello Kingston will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kingston tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

McGee darts in and clinches Kingston up against the cage.
McGee wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Kingston wants to stall.
McGee is trying to drag Kingston to the mat but Kingston just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Kingston turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
McGee takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Kingston really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McGee. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kingston stands up and beckons McGee to his feet.

and Kingston counters with a nice double leg into side control. McGee won't be happy with that.
McGee is not content to let Kingston control the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

McGee is looking to regain half guard here but Kingston keeps moving and retains side control.
Kingston cracks McGee with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Kingston goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, McGee has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Kingston but great work by McGee.
Kingston can't do much from the bottom here.
Kingston is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Kingston keeping hold of McGee's head, controlling as best he can.

Kingston wants to get back to his feet but McGee passes into half guard.

McGee wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kingston keeps working.

Kingston throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Kingston looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
McGee pushes Kingston off looking to stand but Kingston dives back in and keeps control.
Trello Kingston has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kingston controlling the action here.

Kingston is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
McGee moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

McGee is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kingston wants to pass the guard but McGee is keeping the position.

Trello Kingston showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kingston.

Kingston sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but McGee is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
McGee is trying to get back to half guard.
Kingston has knee on belly and moves into mount.

The referee warns McGee that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Kingston tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Let's hope that Kingston has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
McGee tries to hold on but Kingston pushes him away.
Kingston prevents McGee from getting the reversal.
McGee is bucking up trying to escape but Kingston cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Kingston content just to control the position here.

Kingston with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Trello Kingston.
I've got Kingston winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
