Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gaius Augustus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Rawls (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Rawls has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Gaius Augustus's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gaius Augustus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Rawls!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rawls shoots in but Augustus avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Augustus throws a chopping leg kick but Rawls manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Rawls shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Augustus wants to hold on but Rawls pushes him away.
Augustus tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Augustus stops Rawls from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Rawls goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Augustus turns into him and now he's in Rawls's guard.
Augustus has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Rawls is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Augustus slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Rawls working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Augustus doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Augustus manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Rawls isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Augustus stacks Rawls on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Augustus!
Rawls can't do much from the bottom here.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Augustus thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rawls's head.
Rawls is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Rawls wants to control but Augustus is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rawls shoots in for a double leg but Augustus sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
John Rawls seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Augustus tries to bum rush Rawls with a series of wild strikes but Rawls uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Augustus throws a one two combo.
Augustus misses with a wild combination.

Gaius Augustus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Rawls.
Rawls walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Rawls looking to sit in guard and control but Augustus gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rawls has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Augustus is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but John Rawls will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Rawls throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Augustus's waist but Augustus gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rawls off to one side.
Augustus misses with a series of wild punches.
Augustus looks to land a combination. Rawls sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Augustus clinches up against the cage.
Rawls tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Augustus just stands there and leans against the cage.
Rawls tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Augustus smiles and moves away.
Gaius Augustus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Rawls.

Rawls shoots in but Augustus avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Rawls shoots in and drives through. Augustus sprawls well.

Augustus closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Rawls pushes a forearm under Augustus's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Augustus is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
