The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Smith. No joy for Shepard on that attempt.
Shepard tries to clinch up.
Shepard fails with an attempt to clinch.
Shepard looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Shepard is looking to clinch but Smith is avoiding it.
Shepard is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Smith is on top in guard.
Smith pushes down on Shepard's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Shepard is trying to stand back up but Smith is controlling him

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shepard is looking to escape.
Shepard is breathing heavily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Smith is trying to work for a kimura but Shepard is defending well.

Smith decides to stand and escape the position.
Smith is looking to slow Shepard down with leg kicks.
Shepard clinches but Smith breaks the clinch
and Shepard takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Shepard closes the distance looking to clinch

and Smith counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Smith controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Shepard knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.

Shepard can't keep his opponent in guard - Smith advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Smith looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Shepard with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Smith is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Smith in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Shepard tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Smith!
