PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edu Brum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Sander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brum comes into the arena with Mysterious Ways blaring out of the sound system. Edu Brum has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Edu Brum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tom Sander!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Bruno Hogan and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sander keeps the fight on the outside.
Brum wants to clinch.

Sander shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Sander scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Brum wants to get back to full guard.
Sander wants to control but Brum is keeping him busy.
Brum punching from the bottom.
Brum is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Brum shoots in looking for a takedown. Sander tries to sprawl out of it but Brum keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sander manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sander works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Sander scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Sander looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Sander decides to stand back up. Sander steps back and let's Brum get back to his feet.
Brum fails with a takedown attempt.
Brum is breathing heavily.

Sander has managed to clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee calls for Sander to work.

Sander pulls guard successfully.
Brum pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sander is keeping the position for now.
Sander is pulling down on Brum's head to control his posture.
Brum wants to control from the top but Sander keeps moving.
Sander has control of Brum's left arm, preventing Brum from doing any damage.
Brum trying to control but Sander is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sander looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Brum throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sander is on top in guard.
Sander is working Brum over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Brum has his foot on Sander's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sander works his way back into a safe position though.

Sander stands up from guard. Let's bang!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Sander turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Sander just content to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sander working the head and body with strikes.
Sander works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Sander scores with punches from side control.
Sander has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Sander lands a nice shot to the head.

Sander looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Brum is wriggling around trying to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Sander dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sander tries to score a power double leg takedown but Brum sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sander somewhat.
Brum shoots and misses

and Sander counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Sander trying to control the position from guard on top but Brum is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sander pushes down on Brum's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brum wants to improve his position but Sander is controlling well.
Sander is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Brum makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Brum.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sander forces his way into half guard.
Brum on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Sander uses his free foot to push down on Brum's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Brum.
Brum is desperately trying to improve his position but Sander has a good base and remains in mount.
Sander controlling the pace for now.
Brum is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sander with shots to the head and body - Brum looks very uncomfortable down there.
Brum in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Sander is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Brum is surviving well by controlling Sander's body position as best he can.
Brum is desperately trying to improve his position but Sander has a good base and remains in mount.
Sander controlling the pace for now.
Brum taking shots to the head.

Brum is trying to escape the mount.
Sander cracks Brum with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Brum is squirming around, avoiding Sander's attempts to control the action.
Brum is in all sorts of trouble here.

Sander get's back to his feet.
Sander with a poor takedown

and Brum counters by moving into the clinch.
Brum tries for a takedown. No joy.
Brum tries to pull guard but Sander won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edu Brum. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Brum tries to break free but Sander pushes him back against the cage.

Sander's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sander misses with a few strikes there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sander with a lazy takedown attempt
and Brum counters with a stiff right hand.
Edu Brum is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sander avoids the head kick by Brum.

Sander rushes Brum and presses him up against the cage.
Brum is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Sander pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Sander has hold of one of Brum's legs. Brum is fighting the takedown attempt but Sander gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Tom Sander has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sander trying to control but Brum is working from the bottom.
Brum wants to sweep here but Sander controlling him for the moment.
Sander is stalling in the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Sander showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Brum fails with the takedown

and Sander moves into the clinch.
Brum tries to pull guard but Sander won't allow it.

Brum successfully pulls guard.
Brum looking for a sweep. Not yet Brum, not yet.
Sander makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Sander decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Brum, up you get!

Sander drives through with a takedown into guard.

Brum working for submissions but it's allowed Sander to get to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sander is keen to just control but Brum is a slippery customer.
Sander scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Sander is looking for a kimura here.
Sander lands with a punch from half guard.
Brum is trying to maintain the position but Sander is very close to passing his half guard.
Sander content to control rather than advance.
Sander wants to control but Brum is keeping him busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Brum tries to get to full guard but Sander has control of the leg.
Brum scores with a few weak punches.
Brum wants to improve his position but Sander is controlling well.
Sander moves into full mount! Brum won't be happy about that!
Brum is looking to improve his position but Sander isn't that keen on the idea.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sander looking to control and managing it successfully.
Sander trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Sander get's back to his feet.
Sander circles away from the clinch attempt

and Sander counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Sander.
Sander blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Sander jumps into guard, dragging Brum to the mat.
Sander throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sander trying to control the position.
Brum passes Sander's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Sander tries to roll over but Brum keeps him under control.
Sander trying to hold on to Brum's head to control him but Brum postures up.
Brum prevents Sander from improving his position.
Sander trying to control but Brum postures up.
Edu Brum has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tom Sander is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sander blocking the ground and pound attempt from Brum.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tom Sander comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sander has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
