PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Malik Carr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Angel Pierce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pierce has chosen Billy Talent - Devil On My Shoulder as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Angel Pierce was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Malik Carr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Angel Pierce!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Alec Ball and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carr misses with a looping left.
Pierce stuffs the takedown attempt from Carr. Carr gets slowly back to his feet.
Pierce is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Carr fails with the takedown.
Pierce lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Pierce.
Pierce dives in and grabs Carr's left leg, looking for a takedown. Carr pushes down on Pierce's head and hops out.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Pierce.

Carr scores with a takedown into Pierce's guard.
Carr won't allow Pierce to get back to his feet.
Carr throwing strikes from guard but Pierce blocks nicely.
Carr has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pierce is pulling down on Carr's head to control his posture.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carr accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Carr trying to control but Pierce is working from the bottom.
Carr throws a big right hand that misses.

Carr missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Carr stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pierce swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Carr shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Pierce counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Malik Carr. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pierce is thwarting Carr's attempts to control the position.

Pierce stands up from half guard.

Pierce closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Carr to the mat! Carr manages to get full guard.

Pierce trying to control the position from guard on top but Carr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carr is looking for a triangle but Pierce pushes his legs off easily.
Carr is breathing heavily.
Pierce trying to control but Carr is working from the bottom.

Pierce gets to his feet. Carr looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Pierce drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pierce with a flurry of punches that miss.
Pierce wanted to stand there but Carr had control of the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Pierce trying to control the position from guard on top but Carr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Carr is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pierce wants to stand but Carr is controlling his posture from full guard.

Pierce stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Carr on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Pierce. Pierce obviously looking to wear him down.
Pierce walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Carr checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Carr throws a left and a right that both miss

and Pierce counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Carr working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pierce doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pierce manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Pierce has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Carr is proving hard to escape from.

Carr looking to control.
Pierce wants to stand but Carr is controlling his posture from full guard.

Carr is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Carr throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Carr is working an open guard so Pierce takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Carr gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Pierce counters with a nice uppercut.
Carr doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Pierce cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Angel Pierce dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Carr shoots and misses

so Pierce counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Carr looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pierce is one step ahead there.

Pierce stands up and waves to Carr to follow him.

Carr looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Pierce keeping moving, preventing Carr from controlling successfully.
Carr throws a strike but Pierce rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Carr escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pierce gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Carr is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Carr looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Carr preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Carr looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Pierce puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Pierce decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Carr avoids the head kick by Pierce.

and Pierce counters with a nice kick to the body.

Pierce shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Carr manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pierce stands up from Carr's guard - Pierce perhaps looking for a knockout.

Pierce scores with a one two! Carr had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Pierce. Carr shrugs it off though.

Pierce fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Carr sprawls well initially but Pierce persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Pierce slows the pace down in half guard.
Carr is looking for a sweep. Pierce is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Pierce is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Carr sees it coming and defends easily.
Carr moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Pierce throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Carr is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Pierce won't allow Carr to sweep him here.

Carr has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pierce can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Carr is on top in guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pierce is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Angel Pierce showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Carr doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Pierce counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
A clash of legs there as Carr blocks the low kick.
Pierce lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Pierce lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Carr at a distance.
Carr tries to work over Pierce's front leg with a kick but Pierce checks it.

Carr is trying to control Pierce's posture but Pierce avoids it.

Pierce stands up and beckons Carr to join him on the feet.

Pierce lands a nice leg kick that just misses Carr's sensitive parts.
Pierce misses with a two punch combination.
Carr tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Pierce throws a series of punches but Carr avoids them all with ease.

Pierce wants to control from the top but Carr keeps moving.

Pierce must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Carr manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pierce squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Pierce has given up his back. Will we see Carr going for some submissions?

Carr is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Pierce turns into Carr and is now in his guard.
Pierce won't allow Carr to sweep him here.

Carr manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Angel Pierce is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Carr goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Pierce is on top in guard.
Pierce slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Carr is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Pierce defends well.
Malik Carr has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carr wants to sweep here but Pierce controlling him for the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Angel Pierce comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Pierce has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
