PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Martin Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ready Go (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Lambada. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Martin Gracie!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ready Go!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Chris Edwards and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gracie decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Gracie will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gracie is working for a kimura but Go is defending it quite comfortably.

Gracie is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Go has managed to free his arm - good work.
Gracie is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Gracie looking to pass the guard.
Go wants to stand but Gracie is controlling the position.
Gracie being controlled here momentarily.
Go should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie looking to pass the guard.

Gracie drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Go dives on top into guard.
Go must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gracie avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Go stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Go trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.
Gracie wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Go pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gracie is keeping the position for now.
Go stopping the sweep attempt from Gracie.
Go throws a big right hand that misses.
Go stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Go closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Gracie did well to prevent Go getting side control.
The fighters are battling for position here. Gracie manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Gracie bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Go's guard.

Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Go is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gracie accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gracie slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Gracie goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Go has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Gracie but great work by Go.
Gracie is breathing heavily.
Go working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Go tries to advance to mount but can't.
Go in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Go tries to advance to mount but Gracie denies him.
Gracie is trying to improve his position.
Gracie is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Go really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gracie is staying active underneath Go, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Go throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Gracie looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Go wants to take a breather but Gracie is having none of it.
Gracie is pressing down on Go's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Gracie had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Go is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Gracie Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Go's back instead.

Gracie looking to break Go's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Go remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Gracie will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Go is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Gracie off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Gracie seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Go's chin but Go turns very nicely into Gracie's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Go.
Go postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin Gracie dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Go cracks a nice hook into Gracie's ribs.
Gracie throws a series of punches but Go moves out of range.
Go moves in looking to clinch but Gracie pushes him off.
Gracie misses with a body shot

and Go counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Go not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Go throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Gracie is looking to improve his position.
Go slips a nice elbow through Gracie's hands, connecting with Gracie's forehead.
Go trying to mount his opponent but Gracie defends it.
Go working over Gracie with some ground and pound. Gracie looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Gracie actively working from the bottom here.
Ground and pound from Go.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Go's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Go's back!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Go tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Go sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Go looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Gracie looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gracie passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Go!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gracie goes for an armbar but Go turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Go.

Gracie looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Go is defending well. Gracie quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Go has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Gracie celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Martin Gracie!
