PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zewkey Gabe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Ferguson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Donald Grub and Daniel Bishop.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gabe defending well as Ferguson loads up on a big left hand.
Ferguson shoots in and drives through. Gabe sprawls well.
Gabe keeps the fight on the outside.
Gabe fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Ferguson is out of range.
Ferguson is looking to clinch but Gabe is avoiding it.
Ferguson throws a hook to the side of Gabe's head but Gabe sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Gabe fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ferguson sprawls well initially but Gabe persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Gabe is going olschool here, as he tries to force Ferguson to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ferguson shrugs it off.

Gabe has his foot on Ferguson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ferguson works his way back into a safe position though.

Ferguson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Gabe is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ferguson is looking to stand up but Gabe won't let him.
Gabe lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Ferguson!

Gabe has hold of Ferguson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Ferguson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Ferguson's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Gabe is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Ferguson is surviving well by controlling Gabe's body position as best he can.

Gabe is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Ferguson has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Ferguson!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Ferguson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Ferguson shoots in and bounces Gabe off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Ferguson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gabe has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ferguson has managed to get both his arms back between Gabe's legs - danger averted.

Ferguson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gabe swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Ferguson moves in looking to clinch but Gabe pushes him off.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ferguson can do anything to dispel that myth.
