Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Brutus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kazuo Takeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcus Brutus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kazuo Takeda!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, David Schapiro and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takeda throws out a powerful jab.
Takeda thows a left - swing and a miss!
Takeda throws a big shot that misses.

Brutus shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Brutus showed some decent athleticism there.
Takeda moves into full guard.
Takeda keeping moving, preventing Brutus from controlling successfully.
Brutus is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Takeda looking for a sweep. Not yet Takeda, not yet.
Takeda lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Brutus!
Takeda throwing strikes here but Brutus is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Brutus keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Takeda postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Brutus looks a forlorn figure.

Takeda is landing with some decent strikes but Brutus is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Takeda misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Takeda can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Brutus is looking to escape.

Brutus tries to lock up and control but Takeda gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Takeda is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Brutus defends it well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Brutus trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Brutus manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Takeda throwing shots but Brutus is blocking nicely.

Brutus is looking for a sweep. Takeda is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Brutus on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Brutus tries to get out of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kazuo Takeda dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Takeda misses with a double jab.
Takeda misses with an uppercut.
Takeda uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Takeda just misses with a punch to the body.
Takeda throws a half hearted mid kick.
Takeda swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Brutus feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Brutus knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Takeda on the ground.
Takeda doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Takeda manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Brutus manages to get himself to full guard.

Connects with an elbow from the bottom, proving to the judges that he's still active off his back.
Takeda wants to control from the top but Brutus keeps moving.

Takeda drops back looking for a leg! Brutus is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Brutus manages to kick Takeda off! Takeda jumps back into Brutus's guard.
Brutus wants to sweep here but Takeda controlling him for the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Takeda throwing strikes from guard but Brutus blocks nicely.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Takeda tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Brutus was well out of range. Poor timing from Takeda.
Brutus shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Takeda but Takeda pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Takeda throws a looping overhand right but Brutus ducks down to avoid it.
Takeda misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Brutus.

Brutus darts in and clinches Takeda up against the cage.
Brutus stops a takedown attempt from Takeda.
Takeda tries to pull guard but Brutus won't allow it.

Brutus controlling the action here for a moment.
Brutus seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.
Takeda tries for a takedown but Brutus manages to get underhooks.
Marcus Brutus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kazuo Takeda.
Brutus jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Takeda walks away with a smile on his face. Brutus gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Brutus tries for a takedown but Takeda sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Brutus uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Takeda.

Brutus closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Brutus lands in his opponent's guard.
Brutus will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Takeda manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Brutus manages to get himself to full guard.

Brutus had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Takeda defends it easily.
Takeda slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Brutus.
Takeda throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Takeda wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brutus keeps working.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Marcus Brutus will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Takeda misses with a takedown
and Brutus counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Brutus feints and as Takeda raises his hands in defense, Brutus changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Brutus throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Takeda works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Takeda tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Brutus working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Brutus stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Takeda swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Takeda is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Takeda manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Brutus manages to get himself to full guard.
Brutus controls Takeda momentarily but Takeda frees himself.

Takeda is looking to work some ground and pound but Brutus has wrist control.
Marcus Brutus overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Takeda looking to sit in guard and control but Brutus gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Takeda is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Takeda blocks the strikes from Brutus.
Takeda throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Brutus throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Brutus gets caught flat footed, as Takeda shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Takeda is looking to advance position but Brutus won't allow it.
Brutus is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Brutus makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Brutus.
Takeda looking to sit in guard and control but Brutus gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Takeda looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Takeda is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Brutus is aware though and is defending well.

Brutus drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Brutus jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Brutus has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Brutus slips a nice elbow through Takeda's hands, connecting with Takeda's forehead.
Brutus seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Takeda does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kazuo Takeda comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Takeda has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
