Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shoryu Ken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sloat Gresham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Shoryu Ken!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sloat Gresham!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Daniel Cesar and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ken swings for the body but Gresham moves out of range.
Gresham fails to land with a series of punches.
A head kick misses from Gresham.
Gresham connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Gresham plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Gresham throws a head kick that misses.
Gresham tries to clinch but Ken is having none of it.
Gresham throws a body punch but Ken moves out of range.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ken.
Gresham wants to clinch up but Ken keeps it at a distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gresham is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Gresham looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Gresham thows a body shot but no joy.

Gresham feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Ken's calf.
Gresham doesn't manage to clinch there - Ken circles away.
Ken looks to land a combination but Gresham avoids it well.
Gresham lands with a kick to the ribs.
Gresham misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Gresham gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Ken counters with a shoot takedown. Gresham fights it but they end up in guard.

Gresham escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ken gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gresham bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ken's guard.

Gresham drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ken manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gresham has Ken in his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ken tries to free his leg and advance position but Gresham is retaining full guard.

Ken is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gresham working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ken doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ken manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Gresham wants to sweep here but Ken controlling him for the moment.

Gresham isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Ken stacks Gresham on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Ken!

Gresham is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Ken sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Gresham is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Ken lands an elbow.
Gresham is not content to let Ken control the position.
Gresham manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Ken is working for a kimura here but Gresham manages to reverse the position and he's now in Ken's guard.

Gresham advances to half guard.
Ken regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Gresham.
Gresham pushes down on Ken's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Gresham wants to advance to full mount but Ken doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Ken avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Gresham loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Shoryu Ken will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Nice body punch from Gresham.
Sloat Gresham seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A telegraphed right hand from Gresham misses the target.
Gresham throws a front kick that sends Ken stumbling back into the cage.
Gresham lands a front kick.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Ken crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Gresham - the referee stops the clock and Ken gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Gresham. Ken manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Ken swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Ken takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Ken circles away from the clinch attempt
and Ken counters with a left to the body.
Gresham throws a head kick that misses.
Ken on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Ken blocks a head kick by Gresham.
Ken looks to score with a jab to the body but Gresham is just out of range.
Gresham misses with a head kick.
Ken stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Gresham.

Ken takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Gresham throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Crunch! Gresham slams his shin into Ken's torso.
Gresham throws a leg kick which misses Ken's front leg but catches the back leg as Ken tries to avoid it.

Gresham throws a sloppy head kick and Ken moves out of range easily.

Gresham is looking to clinch.

Ken will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.
Ken moves out of range as Gresham throws a body kick.

Ken takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Gresham throws a sloppy head kick and Ken moves out of range easily.

Ken is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Ken takes a swing at Gresham's ribcage but misses.
Ken swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Gresham counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Gresham tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gresham tries to close the distance and clinch but Ken swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Ken counters with a shoot takedown. Gresham fights it but they end up in guard.

Gresham is looking for a triangle here but Ken uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Gresham is breathing heavily.

Ken is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gresham is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Ken blocks the strikes from Gresham.
Gresham is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
You can see the frustration on Gresham's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Ken looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Gresham tries to improve position but can't.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ken is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gresham has escaped the position, nice work there.
Gresham is trying to control Ken's posture but Ken avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Sloat Gresham will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Ken is trying to control Gresham's posture but Gresham avoids it.

Gresham moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Ken has worked his arm free - good work by Ken!

Gresham takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Ken is looking to reverse the position.
Gresham trying to control the action but Ken is working from the bottom.
Gresham misses with the ground and pound.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Gresham tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gresham has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Gresham swings around for an armbar but Ken sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gresham's guard.

Gresham had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ken defends it easily.
Ken throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Ken sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gresham's guard.
Ken is keen to just control but Gresham is a slippery customer.

Ken is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Gresham actively working from the bottom here.
Gresham is looking to control Ken's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gresham avoid being mounted?

Gresham looking for submissions off his back.
Gresham is trying to maintain the position but Ken is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gresham throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Both fighters circling a little - Gresham finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Gresham throws a leg kick but Ken sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Gresham throws a head kick but Ken moves out of range.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Shoryu Ken showed his dominance in that final round.
