The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kovaliakovo misses with a wild combination.
Carter tries to clinch but Kovaliakovo is having none of it.

Carter gets a takedown into half guard.
Kovaliakovo makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kovaliakovo.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kovaliakovo wants to stand and escape but Carter is having none of it.
Carter stands up over Kovaliakovo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Carter pushes down on Kovaliakovo's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Kovaliakovo is trying to stand.

Carter decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
