PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ron Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Leroy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wood comes to the cage accompanied by Walk by Pantera. Leroy has chosen renegade as his entrance music. Ron Wood had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 171.5lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Chris Leroy has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, Ron Wood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Leroy!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Jonathan Paton and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wood throws a right hand that Leroy ducks under and follows up with a left that Leroy also avoids with ease.
Leroy closes the distance and clinches up with Wood, looking for a takedown. Leroy pushes Wood against the cage but Wood circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Wood keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Wood throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Leroy.
Wood stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Wood wants it to stay on the feet.
Ron Wood has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Leroy.
Leroy shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Leroy fails with a takedown attempt.

Wood has closed the distance and engaged Leroy in a clinch.

Wood tightens his grip and picks Leroy up, before dumping him to the ground. Leroy manages to land in guard.

Wood throws a big right hand that misses.
Leroy wants to stand but Wood is controlling the position.
Wood controls from within his opponent's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wood missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nice takedown defense from Leroy. No joy for Wood on that attempt.
Leroy doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Wood counters by clinching up.

Wood breaks the clinch.

Leroy wants a takedown.

Wood ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Wood no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Wood is staying active underneath Leroy, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Wood wants to improve his position but Leroy is controlling well.
Wood is breathing heavily.
Leroy seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Leroy's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Wood throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Leroy is trying to control the action in half guard but Wood is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Wood is trying is best to control the position here.
Wood is trying to control but can't.

Leroy is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Wood doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Leroy.
Wood desperately trying to maintain half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Leroy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wood keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Leroy gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Wood counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Leroy's guard now.
Wood forces his way into half guard.

Wood is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Leroy is breathing heavily.

Wood is looking to take a break and control but Leroy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Leroy tries to get to full guard but Wood has control of the leg.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wood stalling.
Wood is trying to control the action in half guard but Leroy is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Wood drops an elbow to the side of Leroy's head.
Leroy is in trouble now - Wood has advanced to mount!

Wood sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Wood is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Leroy can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Wood lands a heavy elbow.
Leroy tries to hold on but Wood postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Wood has hold of Leroy's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Leroy manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Ron Wood dominated that second round.
That's time! Wood's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Wood.

Wood gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Wood pulls Leroy into guard.
Wood is pulling down on Leroy's head to control his posture.
Leroy is looking to stand up but Wood won't let him.
Leroy tries to free his leg and advance position but Wood is retaining full guard.
Leroy not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wood is on top in guard.
Leroy keeping moving, preventing Wood from controlling successfully.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Leroy looking for a guillotine here but Wood defends easily.

Leroy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wood gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Wood slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Leroy keeping moving, preventing Wood from controlling successfully.

Wood gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Leroy misses with a takedown attempt

and Wood counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Leroy's guard now.

Wood decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Leroy, up you get!
Wood has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Leroy.
Leroy is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Wood looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Leroy!
Wood wants to control the pace but Leroy is squirming around nicely.

Chris Leroy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Wood looking to control but Leroy is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wood is really struggling to control Leroy but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Ron Wood showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Wood has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
