Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Modaal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jay Walker has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jay Walker!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jan Modaal!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Hugh Johnson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Walker pushes Modaal away with a front kick.
Nice takedown defense from Walker. No joy for Modaal on that attempt.
Modaal misses with a straight left.
Modaal changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Walker tries to avoid it but Modaal manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Walker to the ground. Walker escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Modaal shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jay Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jan Modaal.
Modaal misses with a body shot
and Walker makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Modaal doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Walker counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Modaal throws a hook but Walker avoids it easily.
Modaal throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Walker counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
The fight stays on the outside here - Walker looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Walker changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Modaal tries to avoid it but Walker manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Modaal to the ground. Modaal escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Walker shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Modaal is trying to defend but Walker finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Modaal is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Walker tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Modaal.

Modaal is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Walker pulls his head out easily.
It looks like Walker is going to stand back up.
Modaal wants to improve his position but Walker is controlling well.
Modaal has a hand on Walker's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Walker takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Modaal is desperately trying to improve his position but Walker has a good base and remains in mount.

Modaal is squirming around, avoiding Walker's attempts to control the action.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Walker postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Modaal to stand up.
Modaal throws a looping overhand right but Walker ducks down to avoid it.

and Walker moves into the clinch.

Modaal tries to circle away but Walker has him pinned against the cage.
Modaal has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

and Walker counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Jan Modaal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Modaal looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Walker is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Modaal scores with a couple of nice shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Walker counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Modaal throws an overhand right that lands on Walker's shoulder, as Walker tries to avoid the shot.

Walker has managed to clinch.
Walker wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Walker's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Modaal shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Walker counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Modaal wants to improve his position but Walker is controlling well.

Modaal is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Walker pulls his head out easily.
Modaal is breathing heavily.

Modaal has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Walker is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Modaal.
Walker is looking to take a break and control but Modaal is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Modaal avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Walker.

Walker stands up and beckons Modaal to his feet.
Modaal jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Modaal misses with a takedown
and Walker counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Modaal throws a combination that misses
letting Walker counter with a right hand.
Modaal waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Walker.
A thudding body kick lands there by Walker!

and Walker counters by clinching up.
Jay Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jan Modaal.
Modaal drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Walker gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Modaal throws the left hand but Walker avoids the punch easily.
Walker cracks a nice hook into Modaal's ribs.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Modaal throws a head kick that misses
and Walker counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Walker moves out of range as Modaal strikes.
Walker lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Modaal gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Walker counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Walker throws a head kick that misses.
Walker bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Modaal's head.
Walker wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Modaal swings away with a body shot that misses
and Walker counters with a nice body shot.
Modaal swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The fighters circling - Modaal throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Walker throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Walker is looking to wear down Modaal with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Modaal has his takedown stuffed

and Walker holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


A big left from Modaal misses.
Walker tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Modaal throws a hook to the side of Walker's head but Walker sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Modaal throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Walker sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Modaal misses with the body kick
and Walker counters with a right hand to the body.
Modaal falls off balance throwing a combination
and Walker counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Modaal swings away with a body shot that misses

and Walker counters with a nice double leg into side control. Modaal won't be happy with that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Modaal is looking to regain half guard here but Walker keeps moving and retains side control.
Modaal manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Modaal is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Walker pulls his head out easily.
Walker is trying to control. Modaal wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Modaal takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Modaal tries to hold on but Walker pushes him away.
Walker prevents Modaal from getting the reversal.

Modaal is looking to improve his position but Walker isn't that keen on the idea.

Walker trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Modaal is looking to get to half guard.
Walker looking to control but Modaal is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Jan Modaal has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Modaal is trying desperately to improve position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Modaal gets back to half guard.
Walker prevents Modaal from improving his position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Walker trying to control from half guard but Modaal is working away.

Jay Walker showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Walker has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
