PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jude Guieb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vincent Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Santos has chosen Format as his entrance music. Vincent Santos told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jude Guieb!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Vincent Santos!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Ren Mimura.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos tries to close the distance and clinch up but Guieb swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Guieb circles away from the clinch attempt.
Santos changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Guieb tries to avoid it but Santos manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Guieb to the ground. Guieb escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Santos feints and as Guieb raises his hands in defense, Santos changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Santos gets to his feet. Guieb looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Guieb takes the fight into the clinch.
Guieb wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Guieb breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Guieb throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Guieb throws a right hand that Santos ducks under and follows up with a left that Santos also avoids with ease.
Santos fails with a takedown attempt.
Vincent Santos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Santos looks gassed!

Guieb clinches.
Santos jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Guieb walks away with a smile on his face. Santos gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Jude Guieb has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vincent Santos.
Guieb misses with a few strikes there.

Guieb drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Guieb has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Santos closes the distance and clinches up with Guieb, looking for a takedown. Santos pushes Guieb against the cage but Guieb circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Guieb takes the fight into the clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Guieb breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Guieb moves into the clinch.
Guieb is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Guieb pulls guard successfully.

Santos drops back, looking for a kneebar! Guieb looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Guieb looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Guieb!

Guieb decides to stand up, so the ref orders Santos to his feet.

Guieb instigates a clinch.

Guieb turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Guieb manages to end up in side control.

Santos tries to clinch but Guieb moves away
and Guieb counters with a two punch combo.
Danga de danga de dang - Guieb scores with a four punch combination!

Guieb shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Santos is looking to get to half guard.

Guieb working for a guillotine from mount but Santos is in no mood to give up.

Guieb lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Guieb controlling the position easily from mount.
Guieb trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Santos is looking to improve his position but Guieb isn't that keen on the idea.

Santos bucks up and throws Guieb to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
Santos shoots in for a takedown but Guieb shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Santos takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Guieb scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Guieb throws a combination. Santos tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Guieb looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Guieb seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Santos is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Guieb pulls his head out easily.

Guieb wants to pass the guard but Santos is defending well.

Guieb distracts Santos with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Guieb counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Santos is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Santos pushes Guieb off and scrambles back to his feet.
Guieb stuffs the takedown.

Guieb darts in and clinches Santos up against the cage.
Santos tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Guieb smiles and moves away.

Guieb rushes Santos and presses him up against the cage.
Santos tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Guieb breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Guieb throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Santos wants to clinch but Guieb slips to the side
and Guieb counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Santos changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Guieb tries to avoid it but Santos manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Guieb to the ground. Guieb escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Guieb wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Santos has him pressed against the cage.
Guieb lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Guieb is looking to take a break and control but Santos is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Santos bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Guieb has taken the fight to the clinch.

Guieb pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Guieb tries a head kick but it misses.

and Guieb counters with a shoot takedown. Santos fights it but they end up in guard.

Santos has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Guieb can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Santos is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Guieb seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Santos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Guieb wants to control from the top but Santos keeps moving.

Guieb wants to pass the guard but Santos is keeping the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Guieb drives through and clinches with Santos against the cage.
Guieb is working for takedown but Santos is calmly controlling the position for now.
Santos tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Guieb just stands there and leans against the cage.
Guieb creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Santos's defenses.

Santos jumps guard and drags Guieb to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Santos had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Guieb is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Santos Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Guieb's back instead.

Santos has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Guieb is in real trouble here. Santos gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Guieb is tapping out! Santos wins by rear naked choke!
