PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steve Sherrick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rob Williams!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sherrick fails with the takedown.
Sherrick misses with a takedown attempt - Williams sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sherrick shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Williams but Williams pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Sherrick. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Williams takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Sherrick takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Williams feints and as Sherrick raises his hands in defense, Williams changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Williams gets to his feet. Sherrick looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and Williams holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Sherrick tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Williams just stands there and leans against the cage.

Sherrick escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Williams counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Sherrick's guard now.
Sherrick wants to control the position but Williams says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Williams has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Sherrick gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Williams counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Sherrick is breathing heavily.

Williams postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Sherrick to stand up.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sherrick shoots and misses
and Williams counters with a series of strikes. Sherrick will be more careful next time no doubt.

and Williams counters with a left and a right that stings Sherrick.

Williams shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sherrick napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Williams has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Williams rushes Sherrick and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Williams pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Williams throws a right and a left that both miss.
Steve Sherrick seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sherrick tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Williams counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Williams stands up from Sherrick's guard - Williams perhaps looking for a knockout.
Williams throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sherrick tries for a takedown but Williams circles away easily

and Williams counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Williams gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Williams misses with a wild combination.
Williams's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Williams duly obliges.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sherrick throws a head kick but Williams moves out of range.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Sherrick closes the distance looking to clinch

and Williams holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Williams throws a series of punches but Sherrick avoids them all with ease.

and Williams counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Sherrick has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Williams can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Williams stands up and waves to Sherrick to follow him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Williams rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sherrick moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

so Williams counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Sherrick is trying to control the position but Williams postures up.

Sherrick throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Williams escapes and throws Sherrick's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Williams stands up and beckons Sherrick to his feet.

and Williams counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Sherrick wants to improve his position but instead Williams has moved into half guard.

Williams stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Sherrick to get to his feet.

Rob Williams showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Williams scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Sherrick doesn't seem bothered though.

Sherrick closes the distance and pushes Williams back into the cage.
Williams stops a takedown attempt from Sherrick.

Williams looks to land a combination but Sherrick avoids it well.
Williams lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Sherrick circles away quickly and effectively.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rob Williams comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Williams has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
