PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike Ali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sid Singh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Singh has chosen Amazing- Kanye West as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Mike Ali has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Ali!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Sid Singh!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Daniel Bishop and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Singh shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ali as he jumps to the side.
Singh shoots in looking for a takedown. Ali tries to sprawl out of it but Singh keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ali manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Singh fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Mike Ali has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sid Singh.
Singh shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ali as he avoids it easily.

Ali wants to improve his position but Singh is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ali has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Singh is trying to ground and pound but Ali uses the momentary lack of control by Singh to regain half guard.

Singh thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ali's head.

Ali is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Singh pulls his head out easily.
Ali moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Ali is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.

Ali tries to hold on but Singh pushes him away.

Ali bucks up and throws Singh to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
Ali tries to close the distance and clinch up but Singh swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ali fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Singh tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ali swivels and escapes.
Ali really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Ali goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Ali tries to land a leg kick but Singh saw it coming and moves away.

and Singh counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Singh looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Singh not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Ali is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Singh pulls his head out easily.
Ali makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ali.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sid Singh will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Singh throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ali was covering up waiting for the punch and Singh finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Singh postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ali is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Singh, into his guard.

Ali keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Singh's head.

Ali wants to control from the top but Singh keeps moving.

Singh controls Ali momentarily but Ali frees himself.

Ali decides to stand up.
Singh dodges the punch combination from Ali.
Mike Ali is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ali catches Singh with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

No luck for Singh with that takedown attempt.
A decent looking cross lands there for Ali.
Ali jabs at Singh's body.
A left and a right from Ali both land. Nice combination.
Ali lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Ali closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Check out the look on Ali's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Singh is trying to get back to half guard.
Ali will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Singh can't do much from the bottom here.

Ali looks up at the clock and then as Singh takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Ali smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ali scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Ali fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Ali throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Singh misses with a takedown
and Ali counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ali scores with a head kick.
Ali lands a jab.
Ali misses with a body kick.
Ali clobbers Singh with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

and Singh counters with a takedown into side control.

Singh is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ali knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Ali is trying to control Singh's posture but Singh avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Ali dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Singh doesn't succeed with the takedown

Ali is looking for a triangle but Singh pushes his legs off easily.
Singh must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Singh is working Ali over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Singh drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Singh jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ali is on top in guard.
Ali is looking to stand up but Singh won't let him.

Singh has his feet on Ali's thighs here. He's pushed Ali off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Ali screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
