PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Duncan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Per Manne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Derrick Duncan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Per Manne!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Aleksandr Martynov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Manne or perhaps it was just good defense by Duncan which made him look bad.
Manne closes this distance looking for a takedown but Duncan circles away.
Duncan is looking to clinch.
Duncan tries to clinch but Manne moves out of range.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duncan lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the ropes.
Manne tries for a takedown. No joy.
Derrick Duncan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Per Manne.
Duncan lands a knee to the head.


It looks like Per Manne has been cut.
A short body shot lands from Duncan as the two fighters clinch.
Still in the clinch, Duncan scores with a nice short uppercut.

Duncan prevents a takedown attempt there.
Manne tries for a takedown. No joy.
Manne goes for a takedown attempt but Duncan pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Manne shoots in for a takedown but Duncan shows good takedown defense.
Duncan looks to clinch

and Manne counters with a takedown into side control.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Manne happy to just control the position for now.

Manne thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Manne looks gassed!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Manne controlling the position from side mount.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Duncan pushes Manne away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Manne gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Manne happy to just control the position for now.
Duncan is not content to let Manne control the position.

Manne is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Duncan is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Duncan pushes Manne away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Manne gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Duncan managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Manne.

Manne tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Manne trying to control the action but Duncan is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Per Manne dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Per Manne's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Manne circles away from the clinch attempt

and Manne counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Manne.
Manne is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Manne trying to control but Duncan is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Manne is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Let's hope that Manne has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Despite being in the dominant position, Per Manne just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Duncan clinches but Manne breaks the clinch

and Manne counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Manne thows a big elbow that misses.
Duncan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Manne looking to pass the guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Manne showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Duncan wants to stand but Manne is controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Manne trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Manne passes Duncan's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Duncan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Manne on the ground.

Manne is trying to work for a kimura but Duncan is defending well.
Manne is breathing heavily.
Manne wants to lay and pray for a moment but Duncan keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Manne moves nicely into side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Manne tries for a kimura but Duncan is defending well.
Duncan tries to escape but Manne is in control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Per Manne showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Per Manne's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Duncan tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Manne counters by clinching up.
Manne tries for a takedown. No joy.
Manne wants a takedown.
Manne drops down looking for an ankle pick but Duncan pulls his leg out and moves away.
Derrick Duncan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Per Manne.
Manne circles away from the clinch attempt

and Manne counters by moving into the clinch.
Manne with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Manne can't get the takedown.
Manne is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Duncan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
A short right from Duncan.
Manne dodges an elbow strike from Duncan.
Manne is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Duncan is keeping busy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duncan lands a hook that snaps the head of Manne backwards.

Manne gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Duncan avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Manne controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Manne wants to pass the guard but Duncan is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Manne throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Manne stays in close to Duncan's body and controls the position.
Manne's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Manne trying to control the position from guard on top but Duncan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Manne forces his way into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Well, if Manne is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Manne works his way into full mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Manne working for a guillotine from mount but Duncan is in no mood to give up.
Manne tries to control but Duncan wriggling away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Manne controlling his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Per Manne comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Manne winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
