Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Poncherello!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Brandt!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brandt has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Poncherello finds it's way round the side to connect with Brandt's head.
Poncherello fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Brandt manages to avoid it.
Brandt avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
An inside leg kick from Brandt misses.
Brandt misses with an uppercut.
Brandt keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Poncherello ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Ryan Brandt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brandt takes a swing at Poncherello's ribcage but misses.
Brandt leaves Poncherello with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Brandt ducks under a wild hook from Poncherello.

Poncherello blocks a low kick nicely.
Brandt shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Brandt tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Brandt.

and Poncherello counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Poncherello has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Poncherello keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Brandt's head.
Poncherello is looking to work some ground and pound but Brandt has wrist control.
Brandt avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Poncherello makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Poncherello accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Brandt is trying to keep Poncherello in close.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Brandt tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Poncherello is able to avoid easily.
A bone on bone clash there as Poncherello blocks the leg kick.
Poncherello avoids a kick to the body.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Brandt wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Poncherello slips a jab and a cross from Brandt.
Poncherello uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Brandt.
Brandt ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Poncherello moves away.
Brandt will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
A slow jab from Poncherello misses its intended target.
Poncherello checks a leg kick nicely.
Poncherello cracks Brandt with an open hand slap.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Brandt smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Poncherello tries to clinch but Brandt is having none of it.
Poncherello swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Brandt fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Poncherello.
Brandt lands with a straight right. Poncherello didn't see that one coming.
Brandt misses with a body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Poncherello misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Brandt makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Poncherello closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Brandt to the mat! Brandt manages to get full guard.

Brandt lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Poncherello!
Poncherello might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Poncherello can't escape the position.
Brandt controlling the position easily from mount.
Let's hope that Brandt has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Poncherello is in all sorts of trouble here.
Brandt misses with a head shot.
Brandt wants to control but instead Poncherello manages to regain half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Poncherello is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Brandt is looking to stall here but Poncherello recovers full guard.
Poncherello looking for a sweep. Not yet Poncherello, not yet.
Brandt trying to control but Poncherello is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Poncherello looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Good leg kick by Brandt there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Poncherello has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Brandt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Brandt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


A lazy left from Brandt finds it's target.
Brandt misses with a series of wild punches.
Brandt uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Poncherello has time to react.
Poncherello takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
A low kick from Brandt is predictable there
and Poncherello counters with a right hand to the body.

Poncherello shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Brandt's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Brandt can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Poncherello in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Poncherello throws some wild stikes that Brandt manages to avoid easily.

BOOM! Poncherello connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Poncherello is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Brandt wants to hold on but Poncherello pushes him away.
Frank Poncherello overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Poncherello cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Brandt is trying desperately to improve position.

Poncherello misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Poncherello lands with some strikes.

And that's the end of the fight!
Frank Poncherello showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Poncherello has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
