PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Wang Feng (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rogers Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson comes into a darkened arena with his song building. "Tell me how u want 2 b done" (Prince) kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Wang Feng!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rogers Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shigeki Sano and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nelson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Feng tries to avoid it but Nelson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Feng to the ground. Feng escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Feng tries to clinch there but Nelson circles away.
Rogers Nelson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nelson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Nelson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Wang Feng has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rogers Nelson.
Nelson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nelson keeps the fight on the outside.
Nelson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Feng pinned against the cage. Feng gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nelson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nelson shoots for a double leg takedown but Feng sprawls well. He's pushed Nelson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Nelson closes the distance and clinches up with Feng, looking for a takedown. Nelson pushes Feng against the cage but Feng circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nelson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Feng.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nelson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Feng bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Nelson feints and as Feng raises his hands in defense, Nelson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Nelson wants to pass the guard but Feng is keeping the position.
Nelson looks gassed!
Feng keeping moving, preventing Nelson from controlling successfully.
Feng wants to stand up but Nelson is controlling him.
Nelson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Feng's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nelson trying to advance position but Feng counters by regaining guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nelson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Feng swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Nelson is pushing down on Feng's leg trying to pass to half guard. Feng is fighting to maintain full guard but Nelson has managed to sneak the leg through.

Nelson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Nelson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Feng is defending against the submission attempts here by Nelson.
Nelson is taking a breather. Feng says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Nelson is looking to take a break and control but Feng is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Nelson is taking a breather. Feng says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Nelson wants to pass to mount but Feng is defending the position.
Nelson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Despite being in the dominant position, Rogers Nelson just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nelson throws a head kick that misses.
Feng is looking to clinch but Nelson is avoiding it.
Nelson dives in and grabs Feng's left leg, looking for a takedown. Feng pushes down on Nelson's head and hops out.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rogers Nelson dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Feng tries to clinch up but Nelson circles away and keeps his distance.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Nelson.

Feng rushes Nelson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Feng tries a knee to the head but Nelson blocks it.
Feng throws a knee to the head but misses.

Nelson decides to pull guard.

Nelson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Feng is aware though and is defending well.

Feng prevents Nelson from improving his position.

Nelson looking for submissions off his back.
Nelson is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nelson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Nelson.
Nelson is trying to keep Feng in close.

Nelson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Feng doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Nelson is tightening it up a little... Feng has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Feng reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Feng taps out! nice BJJ there by Nelson!
