PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrei Arlovski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and kalle Anka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anka has chosen My Territory as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andrei Arlovski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, kalle Anka!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Arlovski.

Arlovski working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Arlovski tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Arlovski has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Arlovski decides to stand up, so the ref orders Anka to his feet.

Anka connects with a vicious head kick that knocks Arlovski to the floor! Anka dives in looking for the finish!


Arlovski is rocked!


It looks like Andrei Arlovski has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Arlovski counters with a single leg into guard. Anka didn't expect that.

Arlovski drops back looking for a leg! Anka is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Anka manages to kick Arlovski off! Arlovski jumps back into Anka's guard.
Anka wants to stand and escape but Arlovski is having none of it.
Arlovski has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Arlovski decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Anka, up you get!

Anka misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
kalle Anka seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Anka tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Anka throws a head kick but Arlovski moves out of range.

Arlovski rushes Anka and presses him up against the cage.
Anka scores a nice knee to the body.
Arlovski trying to control the position but instead, Anka has worked for underhooks and has pushed Arlovski into the cage.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Anka throws a big right hand that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Anka shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Arlovski counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Anka is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Arlovski shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Arlovski is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Anka wants to stand but Arlovski is controlling the position.
Arlovski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Anka swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Arlovski passes Anka's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Arlovski fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Anka, pushing him back against the cage.

Anka is working for takedown but Arlovski is calmly controlling the position for now.

Anka throws a head kick but Arlovski moves out of range.

Arlovski shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Anka manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Anka wants to stand but Arlovski is controlling the position.
Arlovski slips nicely into half guard.
Anka is in trouble now - Arlovski has advanced to mount!

Anka throws up some feeble strikes from the bottom. Arlovski smiles and locks on to an arm, pivoting beautifully as he drops to the side for an armbar. Anka tries momentarily to escape but he knows he's done and taps furiously to avoid injury. Confident submission skills displayed there by Arlovski.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:02 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Andrei Arlovski!
