PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Porter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ted Chips (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Porter might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Vicarious by Tool. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Daniel Porter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ted Chips!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Porter throws a wild body kick that Chips sees coming a mile off.
Porter fails to land with a series of punches.
Chips throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Porter counters with a nice leg kick.
Chips stuns Porter with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Porter misses with a wild body shot.
Chips closes the distance and clinches up with Porter, looking for a takedown. Chips pushes Porter against the cage but Porter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Porter throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Porter misses with a low kick.
Chips with a lazy takedown attempt
and Porter counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Chips is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Chips shoots in and drives through. Porter sprawls well.
Daniel Porter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ted Chips.
Porter is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Chips lands a front kick.
Chips misses with a hook.
A punch combination from Porter misses.

Porter punishes Chips's body with a nice straight punch.
Porter is breathing heavily.
Porter wants to clinch.
Chips throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Porter counters with a head kick. That will keep Chips thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Chips avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Porter tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Chips paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Chips swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Porter counters with a big head kick but Chips shrugs it off.
Daniel Porter is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Porter gets caught flat footed, as Chips shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Chips with a nice head shot there.
Chips throwing strikes but missing.
Chips is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Chips scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Chips is working Porter over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Porter avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chips is looking to work some ground and pound but Porter has wrist control.
Chips trying to control the position from guard on top but Porter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Chips postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Porter keeping moving, preventing Chips from controlling successfully.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Chips rushes Porter and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Porter is trying to break the clinch but Chips has him pressed against the cage.

Chips gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Chips throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Chips performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Chips lands with a punch from half guard.
Chips is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Chips lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Chips is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Nice strikes from Chips there.
Chips looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Porter with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chips not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chips winds up and cracks Porter with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ted Chips dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Chips fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Daniel Porter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Porter stuffs the takedown attempt from Chips. Chips gets slowly back to his feet.
Chips dives in and grabs Porter's left leg, looking for a takedown. Porter pushes down on Chips's head and hops out.
Daniel Porter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ted Chips.
Chips ducks right into an uppercut from Porter.
Porter looks to land a combination. Chips sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Chips gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Porter wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Chips has clasped his hands together around Porter's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Chips throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Chips tries to score with some ground and pound. Porter controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Porter is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Chips asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Chips looks up at the clock and then as Porter takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Chips smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Chips is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Porter knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Porter takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Porter takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Chips trying to control the action but Porter is working from the bottom.

Chips in side control lands a decent elbow.
Chips postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Porter takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Chips working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ted Chips showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

so Chips counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Chips postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Chips pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Porter is keeping the position for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Chips pushes down on Porter's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Chips throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Chips has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Porter is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Chips wants to control from the top but Porter keeps moving.
Chips is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Ted Chips has got the better of the ground game so far.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Chips trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Porter takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Chips tries to score a power double leg takedown but Porter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Chips somewhat.
Daniel Porter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Chips goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Porter rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Chips's guard! Nice work there by Porter!
Porter wanted to stand there but Chips had control of the position.

Ted Chips comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Chips has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
