PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Jerabek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jerabek has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Jason Smith is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Jerabek!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith keeps the fight on the outside.
Smith wants to clinch

and Jerabek counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Smith gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Jerabek is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Smith is defending well for now.
Jerabek blocks the elbow strike.
Jerabek fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Jerabek looks gassed!
Smith misses with the head strike.
Smith scores with a nice hook to the head.

Smith decides to pull guard.
Jerabek wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Jerabekis looking to pass into half guard but Smith pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Smith is in guard.

Jerabek looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Smith has picked Jerabek up and slammed him! Jerabek can't keep hold of the triangle and Smith manages to pass to side control!

and Jerabek counters by moving into the clinch.
Smith lands an elbow just above Jerabek 's eye.
Smith scores with a nice hook to the head.
Smith gets through Jerabek's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Smith connects with a nasty looking knee right to Jerabek's face.
Smith misses with a knee to the head.
Jerabek goes for a takedown attempt but Smith pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
A big head kick from Smith and Jerabek is sent sprawling to the canvas!

Smith has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Smith wanted to stand there but Jerabek had control of the position.

Jerabek has momentary wrist control but Smith slips an elbow through the middle.

Smith is looking to clinch but Jerabek is avoiding it.

Smith has taken the fight to the clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Smith throws an elbow but misses.
Smith lands an elbow that stopped Jerabek in his tracks for a moment.
Smith tries a knee to the head but Jerabek blocks it.
Smith misses with an elbow over the top.
Smith lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

Smith wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Jerabek shoots for a double leg takedown but Smith sprawls well. He's pushed Jerabek's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jason Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Jerabek.
Jerabek connects with a high kick.
Smith tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Smith thumps Jerabek with a low kick.
Smith moves in looking to clinch but Jerabek pushes him off.

Jerabek looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Smith is fending him off so far but Jerabek persists. Nope, Smith circles away and we're back to standing.
Smith bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Jerabek's head backwards.

Jerabek tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Smith smiles and moves away.
Smith wants to clinch but Jerabek slips to the side
and Jerabek counters with a left and a right that stings Smith.
Smith tries to clinch up but Jerabek circles away and keeps his distance.
Jerabek throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Smith.
Smith tries to clinch up.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Smith.
Smith tries to clinch there but Jerabek circles away.

and Jerabek counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Smith looking to slow down the pace here.
Smith lands a nice elbow.
Smith swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Jerabek tries for a takedown but Smith manages to get underhooks.

Jerabek gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Smith regains guard.
Jerabek in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Jerabek gets to his feet. Smith looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jerabek clinches up with Smith and pushes him back against the cage.

Smith tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jerabek just stands there and leans against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Smith dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Jerabek decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Smith is trying to control but can't.
Smith is trying to stand up here but Jerabek is controlling him well.

Jerabek is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Jerabek wants to pass to mount but Smith is defending the position.
Smith is trying to stand up here but Jerabek is controlling him well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jerabek is working for a kimura here but Smith manages to reverse the position and he's now in Jerabek's guard.

and Jerabek counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Jerabek gets to his feet - Smith follows without any prompting.

Jerabek shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Smith's guard.

Jerabek stands and steps away. Smith gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Smith is fighting off a takedown attempt but Jerabek is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Smith to the mat. Smith regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Jerabek looking for a submission but Smith manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jerabek wants to advance to full mount but Smith doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jerabek tries to free his leg and advance position but Smith is retaining full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Jerabek shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Smith as he jumps to the side.
Smith tries to clinch but Jerabek moves away

so Jerabek counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jerabek seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Jerabek forces his way into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Jerabek showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Smith tries to clinch up but Jerabek circles away and keeps his distance.
Smith is looking to clinch.
Smith lands with a thumping leg kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Smith looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Jerabek counters with a single leg into guard. Smith didn't expect that.
Jerabek passes Smith's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Jerabek thows a huge punch but Smith dodges it nicely.

Jerabek wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Smith keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Jerabek is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Jerabek is stalling here. Smith is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Jerabek seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Smith has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Jerabek is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Smith's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jerabek tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Smith has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Jerabek really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Smith trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Smith prevents Jerabek from getting the reversal.
Jerabek is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Jerabek wants to control but Smith is having none of it.
Jerabek is trying to escape the mount.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Smith has isolated one of Jerabek's arms. Jerabek looking to fight him off but Smith twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
