PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Ferguson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rashid Irvins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Kevin Ferguson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Rashid Irvins!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Glass and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Ferguson with that takedown attempt.

Ferguson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Irvins, pushing him back against the cage.

Ferguson is trying to trip Irvins. He has hold of a leg but Irvins is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Ferguson persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ferguson wants to get up but he can't break Irvins's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Ferguson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Ferguson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Irvins gets the underhooks and prevents it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Ferguson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ferguson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Irvins moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ferguson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Ferguson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Irvins to the mat! Irvins manages to get full guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ferguson holds on and takes a little breather.

Irvins got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ferguson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Irvins has managed to get both his arms back between Ferguson's legs - danger averted.

Ferguson has clasped his hands together around Irvins's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Kevin Ferguson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ferguson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Ferguson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Irvins uses from the top position.
