PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Azeno Piedbatulo (ranked 1337 p4p, 2522 weight class) and Jeff Lee (ranked 129 p4p, 234 weight class). Lee has chosen Doomsday Clock as his entrance music. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Azeno Piedbatulo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jeff Lee!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters circling a little - Lee finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Lee is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Lee tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Piedbatulo paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Piedbatulo gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Lee.
Lee tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Lee dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Piedbatulo. That did some damage!

and Piedbatulo counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Piedbatulo.

Piedbatulo drops back looking for a leg! Lee is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lee manages to kick Piedbatulo off! Piedbatulo jumps back into Lee's guard.
Lee is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lee is looking for a triangle but Piedbatulo pushes his legs off easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Piedbatulo works over Lee with some ground and pound from guard.
Piedbatulo distracts Lee with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Piedbatulo cracks Lee with a solid left hand.

Piedbatulo works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Piedbatulo prevents Lee from improving his position.
Piedbatulo seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Piedbatulo wants to control but Lee is keeping him busy.
Piedbatulo is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Lee is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Piedbatulo wants to work for an arm triangle but Lee is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Lee tries to roll over but Piedbatulo keeps him under control.
Piedbatulo perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Piedbatulo passes to full mount!
Lee in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Lee is working to get back to half guard.

Piedbatulo is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Lee to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Lee shrugs it off.

Piedbatulo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lee tries to hold on but Piedbatulo postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Piedbatulo postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Lee looks a forlorn figure.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Piedbatulo cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Lee is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Lee is working to get back to half guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lee tries to hold on but Piedbatulo pushes him away.
Piedbatulo takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.

Lee is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Piedbatulo gets his way!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Azeno Piedbatulo dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Lee pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lee avoids a punch combination nicely.
Jeff Lee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Piedbatulo keeps the fight on the outside.
Lee throws a leg kick but Piedbatulo checks it.
Lee misses the jab.
Lee staying out of range there.
Lee tries to clinch up

and Piedbatulo counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Piedbatulo slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Lee wants to get back to his feet.

Check out the look on Piedbatulo's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Piedbatulo has control of Lee's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Lee regains control of the situation pretty easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Lee is looking to improve his position but Piedbatulo isn't that keen on the idea.
Piedbatulo pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Lee is rocked!
Azeno Piedbatulo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Piedbatulo postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks Lee out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Piedbatulo goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Azeno Piedbatulo!
After winning the bout, Azeno Piedbatulo thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
