The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gonzalez gets tackled into the cage by Matthews. Matthews maintains the clinch.
Gonzalez wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Matthews has him pressed against the cage.
Gonzalez is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Matthews is keeping busy.
Matthews is struggling to control the position.
Matthews jumps guard but Gonzalez turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
A bit of stalling here from Matthews.
Matthews is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Gonzalez is defending well for now.

Matthews breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Matthews shoots in but Gonzalez avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Gonzalez tries to counter by closing the distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Matthews throws a hook to the side of Gonzalez's head but Gonzalez sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Gonzalez tries for a takedown but Matthews sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

No luck for Matthews with that takedown attempt.

Gonzalez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Matthews moves away.
Gonzalez throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Matthews on the side of the head.
Gonzalez has a takedown stuffed.
Gonzalez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Matthews swivels and escapes.
Gonzalez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Matthews pinned against the cage. Matthews gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Horrible takedown attempt by Gonzalez or perhaps it was just good defense by Matthews, which made it look bad.

Gonzalez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Gonzalez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Matthews sneaks out the side door and pushes Gonzalez away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Matthews misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Matthews doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Gonzalez counters with a three punch combo that has Matthews backing up. Matthews nods at Gonzalez to acknowledge the strikes.
Matthews shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gonzalez as he avoids it easily.
Gonzalez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Matthews but Matthews pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Matthews appears to be looking for a big counter.

Gonzalez tries to keep at a distance but Matthews has taken the fight into the clinch.

Matthews manages to break the clinch.

Gonzalez misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Matthews.
Matthews is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Gonzalez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Matthews paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Gonzalez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Matthews avoids it really well and circles away.

Matthews closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Gonzalez quickly recovers to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Matthews content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Salvador Matthews dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Gonzalez with a lazy takedown attempt

and Matthews counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Gonzalez manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Matthews really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Matthews is sitting in close to Gonzalez's body. Gonzalez has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Matthews is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Matthews is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Gonzalez.
