PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Killer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrei Arlovski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Killer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andrei Arlovski!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Killer gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Arlovski to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Killer is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Arlovski drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Killer manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Arlovski has Killer in his guard.
Killer has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Arlovski is proving hard to escape from.

Arlovski has his foot on Killer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Killer works his way back into a safe position though.

Killer stands and steps away. Arlovski gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Arlovski avoids the body shot from Killer.
Killer fails in his attempt to clinch.
Arlovski tries to clinch up.

Killer avoids the body shot from Arlovski.

Arlovski shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Killer is trying to control the position but Arlovski postures up.

Arlovski stands up and waves to Killer to follow him.
Killer is looking to clinch but Arlovski is avoiding it.
Arlovski fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and Arlovski decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Killer's guard.

Killer wants to get back to his feet but Arlovski is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Killer is working an open guard so Arlovski takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Killer tries to clinch up but Arlovski circles away and keeps his distance.

Arlovski takes the fight into the clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Killer throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Killer lands an uppercut.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Killer.
A short body shot lands from Killer as the two fighters clinch.

Killer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Killer clinches.

Killer manages to break the clinch.
Killer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Arlovski swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Killer drives through and clinches with Arlovski against the cage.
Killer is trying to break the clinch but Arlovski is controlling him.
Killer has Arlovski pressed against the cage.
Killer swings wildly with an uppercut but Arlovski uses good head movement to avoid it.

Killer's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Killer scores with a head kick.


It looks like Andrei Arlovski has been cut.
Arlovski moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Arlovski tries to clinch there but Killer circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Killer shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Arlovski counters with a nice double leg into side control. Killer won't be happy with that.
Arlovski working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Killer tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Killer is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Arlovski stands up.
Killer rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Arlovski moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Arlovski shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Killer is trying to defend but Arlovski finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Arlovski is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Killer sees it coming and defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Killer looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Killer is trying to stand.

Arlovski is trying for a kimura here. Killer looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Arlovski wins by kimura!
