With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gocha Toreli!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Chris Edwards and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Toreli closes this distance looking for a takedown but Haney circles away.
The fighters circle momentarily. Haney darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Nice takedown defense from Haney. No joy for Toreli on that attempt.
Toreli dodges the punch combination from Haney.
Toreli tries for a takedown but Haney circles away easily
and Haney makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Rodney Haney has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gocha Toreli.
Toreli shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Haney defends it nicely.
Haney lands a nice hook to Toreli's body. Toreli takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Haney counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Haney lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Haney scores with a body shot.
Haney changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Toreli takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Toreli tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Haney swivels and escapes.
Haney jabs Toreli to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Haney lands a right hook to the body.
Haney lands a head shot.
Toreli will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Haney throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Toreli's head.
A left lands for Haney.

Haney bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Haney misses with a wild combination.

Toreli gets the takedown into side control.
Toreli tries to advance to mount but Haney denies him.

Haney is looking for a sweep.

It looks like Toreli might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Let's hope that Toreli has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Haney is looking to regain half guard here but Toreli keeps moving and retains side control.
Toreli tries to advance position but instead Haney slips a leg back in to half guard.
Haney is pressing down on Toreli's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Haney slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Toreli is trying to control Haney's posture but Haney avoids it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Toreli has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Haney.
Haney slaps away a takedown attempt from Toreli, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Toreli misses with a takedown attempt - Haney sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Haney swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Toreli gets a takedown into half guard.
Toreli seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Haney trying to hold on to Toreli's head to control him but Toreli postures up.
Haney is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Toreli can do to turn this around?

Haney thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Haney drops back looking for a leg! Toreli is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Toreli manages to kick Haney off! Haney jumps back into Toreli's guard.

Haney slips nicely into half guard.
Toreli really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Haney. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Haney is taking a breather. Toreli says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Toreli is not content to let Haney control the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Toreli can do anything to dispel that myth.
Haney thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Toreli is looking to control Haney's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Toreli avoid being mounted?

Haney is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Toreli doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Haney.
Haney throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Haney in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Toreli tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Haney!
