PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cael Yurchon (ranked 3323 p4p, 3137 weight class) and August Knox (ranked 100 p4p, 91 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cael Yurchon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, August Knox!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yurchon lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Knox shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Yurchon is trying to control the position but Knox postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Knox in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Yurchon throws his legs up looking for a submission but Knox uses it to pass to side control.
Knox tries to score with some ground and pound. Yurchon controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like Knox might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yurchon can't do much from the bottom here.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Knox controls the position.
Knox lands a nice forearm strike.
Knox working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Yurchon is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Knox postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Knox really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Yurchon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Knox tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Knox has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Knox tries a head kick but it misses.

Knox closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Yurchon's guard.
Yurchon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Knox is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

August Knox dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Knox closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Yurchon did well to prevent Knox getting side control.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yurchon wants to control but Knox is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Knox connects with a nice short shot to Yurchon's temple.

Knox moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Yurchon.

Yurchon gets caught flat footed, as Knox shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Knox controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Knox is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Yurchon is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Yurchon has escaped and now he's on top!

Knox is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Knox pulls Yurchon in close to his closed guard and prevents Yurchon from doing any damage or advancing position.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

August Knox showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Yurchon scores with a nice strike.
Yurchon lands a jab to the head.
Knox moves forwards but Yurchon connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Yurchon missing with a left hand there. Knox was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Knox closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Knox working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Yurchon is not content to let Knox control the position.
Yurchon can't do much from the bottom here.
Knox wants to control but Yurchon is keeping him busy.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Knox has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Yurchon sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Knox trying to mount his opponent but Yurchon defends it.
Yurchon tries to roll over but Knox keeps him under control.
Yurchon regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Knox.

Knox got a little sloppy there for a moment and Yurchon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Knox has managed to get both his arms back between Yurchon's legs - danger averted.

Yurchon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Knox gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Knox is stalling in the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Knox shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Knox won't allow Yurchon to sweep him here.

Knox is looking for a kimura but Yurchon is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Knox to get the leverage.

August Knox comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Knox winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
