Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jalen Shaw (ranked 2119 p4p, 3593 weight class) and Sampoo Heikkinen (ranked 239 p4p, 361 weight class). Sampoo Heikkinen will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sampoo Heikkinen!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Atkins and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slapping leg kick lands for Heikkinen.
Nice defenses there by Shaw.
Heikkinen on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
A looping hook to the body misses from Heikkinen. Shaw does a little dance to reset his feet.
Heikkinen tries to score with a low kick but Shaw moves his leg out of the way.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Shaw postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

and Heikkinen takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Sampoo Heikkinen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shaw takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Heikkinen steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Shaw stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Heikkinen.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shaw steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Heikkinen.
Heikkinen lands a leg kick that knocks Shaw off balance momentarily.
Heikkinen throws a right and a left that Shaw avoids nicely.
Heikkinen misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Shaw.
Heikkinen fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Shaw looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

letting Heikkinen counter with a right hand.
Heikkinen throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Heikkinen lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Shaw avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Shaw has a takedown stuffed.
Nice jab there from Heikkinen.

and Heikkinen counters with a right hand to the body.

Heikkinen has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
