The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Giggs cracks Mendes with an open hand slap.
Mendes checks a low kick from Giggs.
Mendes takes a swing at Giggs's ribcage but misses.
Nice uppercut there from Giggs.
It looks like Afonso Mendes has been cut.
Giggs misses with a hook.

and Mendes counters with a two punch combo.
Mendes takes one to the side of the head.
Mendes checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Mendes scores with a hook to the body. Giggs takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Giggs fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Giggs ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mendes moves away.
Giggs is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Mendes rather than just go for the knockout.
Mendes lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Giggs circles away quickly and effectively.
Mendes on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Giggs. Giggs obviously looking to wear him down.

Giggs misses with a wild body shot.
Giggs throws a sloppy head kick and Mendes moves out of range easily.
Giggs swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Mendes appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Giggs gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Giggs tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Mendes is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Giggs buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Giggs!! Giggs is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Mendes throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.
