PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Abdo Farah (ranked 4301 p4p, 3066 weight class) and Renaldo Chang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Abdo Farah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Renaldo Chang!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chang misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A telegraphed right hand from Chang misses the target.
A jab from Farah does it's job there.
Chang takes a jab right on the kisser.
Farah stuffs the takedown.

Chang drives through and clinches with Farah against the cage.
I was talking to Farah's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Farah breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A cross from Farah lands.
Farah looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Chang is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Chang fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Abdo Farah has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Renaldo Chang.
Farah connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Farah scores with a jab to the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Farah counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Farah throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Farah throws a looping overhand right but Chang ducks down to avoid it.
Farah works the jab nicely.
Farah wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Farah throws a nice inside leg kick.
Farah throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Chang misses with a hook to the body
and Farah cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Chang looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Abdo Farah seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Farah swinging wildly here.
Chang takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Nice shot lands for Farah.
Farah comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Farah fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Chang manages to avoid it.
Chang slips under a jab from Farah.
Chang dives in and grabs Farah's left leg, looking for a takedown. Farah pushes down on Chang's head and hops out.
Nice cross by Farah.
Farah throws a body shot but no joy.
Chang tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Chang has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Farah scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Chang doesn't seem bothered though.
Farah lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

It looks like Renaldo Chang has been cut.
Farah lands a body shot.

Farah lands a big head kick that sends Chang tumbling to the mat! Farah takes a step backwards and waves Chang back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Chang is rocked!
Farah fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Chang is still on wobbly legs! Can Farah finish him?
Chang slips under a jab from Farah.
Chang seems to have recovered his senses.
Farah digs a good hook to Chang's body.

Farah clinches up with Chang and pushes him back against the cage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Chang.

Farah breaks from the clinch.
Farah looks to land a body kick but Chang moved away.
Farah misses with an uppercut.
Chang moves forwards but Farah connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Farah scores with a sloppy right hand. Chang should have avoided that one.
Farah lands with an uppercut that bounces Chang off the cage and back into range.
Chang displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Farah throws out the jab.
Abdo Farah is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Farah scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Farah misses with a double jab

and Chang counters with a shoot takedown. Farah fights it but they end up in guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Chang advances position into side control!
Sloppy strikes there by Chang.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chang advances to mount.
Chang can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Farah is looking to escape.
Chang throwing strikes here but Farah is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Farah blocking the ground and pound.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Farah is trying to escape the mount.
Chang with the ground and pound from mount.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Abdo Farah dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Renaldo Chang's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!

Farah throws an off balance right hand

and Chang counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Chang pushing down on Farah's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Chang passes to side control.
Chang scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Farah to see if he's OK.

It looks like Abdo Farah has been cut.
Farah on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Farah tries to get out of the position.
Chang is putting a hurting on Farah here, landing some big shots from side control.
Chang throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Farah on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Abdo Farah's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chang misses with the ground and pound.
Farah is working to avoid the ground and pound but Chang connects with a decent elbow.

Jeez, Abdo Farah's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Abdo Farah's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Renaldo Chang!
