PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Reggie Ricardo (ranked 2294 p4p, 3146 weight class) and Cole Dunn (ranked 211 p4p, 274 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Reggie Ricardo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cole Dunn! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Eddie Farnsworth and Lou da Vinci.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ricardo gets the takedown into side control. Ricardo tries to advance to mount but Dunn denies him. Dunn takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Ricardo lands a decent elbow from side control. Ricardo tries to move into full mount but can't pass Dunn's legs. Ricardo is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Dunn's shoulder. That is not cool. Ricardo is working Dunn over with some ground and pound from side control. Dunn wants to get back to his feet but Ricardo drags him back down. Ricardo lands a few punches from side control. Ricardo scoring with punches from side control. Ricardo controls the position from side control. Dunn tries to bench press Ricardo off him but Ricardo keeps the position.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Ricardo trying to control the position but Dunn is working away. Ricardo working the body and head with strikes. Dunn is positioning himself to get back to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ricardo working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Dunn takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Ricardo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Ricardo is working Dunn over with some ground and pound from side control. Dunn manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Ricardo lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. We've been hearing good reports from Ricardo's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Ricardo working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
 Dunn is rocked! Dunn is trying to stand back up but Ricardo is controlling him
Dunn is still in real trouble! Can Ricardo finish him? Ricardo controlling the action here. Dunn has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ricardo is working away from the top position though. Dunn is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Ricardo scores with a couple of nice shots. Dunn has hold of Ricardo's hands but Ricardo slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ricardo connects with a nice short shot to Dunn's temple. Ricardo lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Dunn! More strikes land and this one is all over! Ricardo jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Reggie Ricardo! A relieved looking Reggie Ricardo thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
