PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joseantonio Quiroz (ranked 3389 p4p, 3657 weight class) and Jesse Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joseantonio Quiroz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jesse Lee!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Steve Erwin and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee looks to land a body kick but Quiroz moved away.
Lee feints a jab promting Quiroz to slip. Lee then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Quiroz slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Lee tries to sprawl but Quiroz drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Lee is trying to escape back to his feet but Quiroz uses the scramble to pass into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Quiroz tries to move to mount but Lee blocks the move with his legs.
Lee looking for a sweep but Quiroz has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Lee is looking to improve his position but Quiroz isn't that keen on the idea.

Lee tries to hold on but Quiroz postures up.
Quiroz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lee is desperately trying to improve his position but Quiroz has a good base and remains in mount.

Lee really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Quiroz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lee tries to hold on but Quiroz postures up.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Quiroz throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Quiroz breaks from Lee's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Quiroz is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Quiroz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lee pinned against the cage. Lee gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Lee tries to counter with a clinch but Quiroz shakes him off and moves away.
Quiroz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lee circles away quickly and effectively.

Quiroz shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Quiroz showed some decent athleticism there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Quiroz is trying to work for a kimura but Lee is defending well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Quiroz avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Joseantonio Quiroz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Lee throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Lee tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Quiroz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Quiroz looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Lee throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jesse Lee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lee throws a head kick that Quiroz semi-blocks.
Lee shoots in and drives through. Quiroz sprawls well.
Lee misses with a few strikes there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
No luck for Quiroz with that takedown attempt.
Lee swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Quiroz walks forward, straight into a front kick from Lee.
Lee tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Quiroz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Lee lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Quiroz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Lee blocks a head kick by Quiroz.
Lee throws a right and a left that both miss.

Quiroz fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lee sprawls well initially but Quiroz persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Lee is looking for a sweep. Quiroz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Quiroz looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Quiroz wants to pass the guard but Lee is defending well.
Quiroz not doing much here.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Quiroz wants to stand up but Lee has a hold of him and won't allow it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Quiroz closes the distance and clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lee is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Quiroz prevents the takedown attempt.
Quiroz throws a head punch that misses.
Lee goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Lee wants to break free but Quiroz has control.
Quiroz tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joseantonio Quiroz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lee tries to break free but Quiroz pushes him back against the cage.
Quiroz lands with a right to the head.
Lee connects with a nasty looking knee right to Quiroz's face.
Lee is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Quiroz is defending well for now.
Lee misses with a hook to the ribs.
Quiroz tries to pull guard but Lee holds him up against the cage and eventually Quiroz drops back down to his feet.
Quiroz will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Lee up against the cage.

Quiroz can't find room to land a body shot as Lee controls the action.

Quiroz is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Lee can't fight it off and eventually Quiroz manages to take the fight to the floor. Lee looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Lee scrambles and gets back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Quiroz on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Quiroz changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lee looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Quiroz goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Lee has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Quiroz but great work by Lee.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jesse Lee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

and Quiroz counters with a series of strikes. Lee will be more careful next time no doubt.
Lee moves in looking to clinch but Quiroz pushes him off.
Lee throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Lee lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Quiroz circles away quickly and effectively.

Quiroz moves into the clinch successfully.
Lee trying to control the position but instead, Quiroz has worked for underhooks and has pushed Lee into the cage.
Lee is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Lee breaks from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lee misses with a wild combination.
Jesse Lee seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Quiroz moves into the clinch.

Quiroz escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lee blocks a head kick by Quiroz.

Quiroz shoots in and gets a takedown into Lee's guard.
Quiroz is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Quiroz prevents Lee from getting back to his feet.
Quiroz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lee swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Quiroz is looking to stand up but Lee won't let him.
Lee wants to control the position but Quiroz says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Lee looks like he's trying to stand up.
Lee pushes Quiroz off but Quiroz dives into side control.
Quiroz is working Lee over with some ground and pound from side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lee struggling a bit here.
Quiroz remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Quiroz works to advance to full mount. Lee defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jesse Lee has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Quiroz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joseantonio Quiroz showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Quiroz has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
