Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Smoke Charlton (ranked 1857 p4p, 1755 weight class) and Jerry Pope (ranked 233 p4p, 219 weight class). Charlton comes into the arena with Don't Waste My Time blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pope moves to clinch but Charlton breaks away
and Pope takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Pope is looking to clinch.
Charlton definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Charlton lands the left hand.
Charlton takes a swing at Pope's ribcage but misses.
Charlton bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Charlton lands a nice shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Charlton scores with a hook to the body. Pope takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Charlton keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

and Charlton connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Charlton throws a good cross that connects.
It looks like Jerry Pope has been cut.

Pope darts in trying to clinch
and Charlton counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Charlton clobbers Pope with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Charlton lands a big uppercut and Pope crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Pope looks OK. Charlton waves Pope back to his feet!
Pope is still on wobbly legs! Can Charlton finish him?
Pope gets the takedown into side control.
Pope seems to have recovered his senses.
Charlton wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Charlton tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Charlton trying to get back to his feet but Pope is in full control for now.
Pope is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Charlton with him. Charlton is trying to defend but Pope has an arm under the chin now! Charlton grimaces and is forced to tap out!
