Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Marty Rainey (ranked 973 p4p, 2097 weight class) and Trent Richards (ranked 100 p4p, 196 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marty Rainey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Trent Richards! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Chad Campbell and Jorge Garcia.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rainey throws a jab when Richards was well out of range. Nice defenses there by Richards. A little jabbing left from Richards on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Marty Rainey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rainey swings widly with a right hand
and Richards counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Nice defenses there by Richards. Rainey misses with a right hand and Richards counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Richards has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Rainey misses with a double jab
and Richards counters with a straight right hand. Rainey throws a shot from downtown. Richards moves away and avoids it. Rainey pushing out the jab but it's not landing. A little jabbing left from Richards on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Richards moves away from the strike by Rainey. Rainey throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Rainey misses with a body shot.
Richards ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Rainey fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Richards manages to avoid it. Rainey is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Richards. Richards only half commits to the counter leg kick. Marty Rainey is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Jab from Rainey. Rainey has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Rainey cracks Richards with a right hand to the side of the head. Richards closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rainey circles away. Richards lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Richards fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rainey sprawls well initially but Richards persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Richards is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Richards looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Rainey has hold of Richards's hands but Richards slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Rainey is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Richards's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Richards's back!
Rainey is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

 That's two minutes gone in the round. Will Rainey go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Rainey looking for the choke from the back. Richards breaks Rainey's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Rainey keeping full guard, as Richards tries to pass. Richards is looking to work some ground and pound but Rainey has wrist control. Richards throws a big right hand that misses. Rainey has momentary wrist control but Richards slips an elbow through the middle.
Richards drops back looking for a leg! Rainey is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rainey manages to kick Richards off! Richards jumps back into Rainey's guard. Rainey is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Richards is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Richards pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rainey is keeping the position for now. Richards slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Richards is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rainey has escaped the position, nice work there. Rainey is looking to regain half guard here but Richards keeps moving and retains side control. Richards has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Richards working away. Rainey is looking to regain half guard here but Richards keeps moving and retains side control. Rainey wants to control but Richards postures up. An elbow from Richards crashes against the mat.
Check out the look on Richards's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Richards tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Richards misses with the ground and pound. Rainey tries to buck Richards off but Richards is having none of it. Rainey is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Rainey can't do much from the bottom here. Richards connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Rainey some visible discomfort.
Richards cracks Rainey with a big right hand but Rainey just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Richards thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Rainey is looking to regain half guard here but Richards keeps moving and retains side control.
Richards has an Americana. Rainey didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Richards is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Richards hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Trent Richards! Trent Richards gave a mention to ELITE Exclusive Nutrition - True 160Q in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
