Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matteo Petty (ranked 26017 p4p, 26016 weight class) and Corbin Pierce (ranked 162 p4p, 153 weight class). Corbin Pierce has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matteo Petty!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Corbin Pierce!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Skip Squint and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pierce looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Pierce looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Petty trying to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Petty working a defensive guard but Pierce manages to pass into side control anyway.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Petty is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Pierce is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Pierce content just to control the position here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Petty manages to regain half guard. Good work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
It looks like Pierce might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Petty is trying to get back to full guard.

Petty keeping hold of Pierce's head, controlling as best he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Pierce darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Petty is trying to get back to full guard.
Pierce with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Petty wants to improve his position but Pierce is controlling well.
Pierce is figuring out what he wants to do next.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Pierce shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Petty is looking to get back to full guard here but Pierce has managed to pass to side control instead.
Petty prevents Pierce from improving position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pierce remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Petty sneaks back into half guard.
Pierce works his foot free and advances to mount.
Petty can't escape the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Petty is working hard here to advance position.
Pierce controlling the pace for now.

Petty is looking to get to half guard.
Pierce looking to control and managing it successfully.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Petty can't escape the position.
Pierce takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Corbin Pierce showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Petty shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Pierce's guard.
Pierce avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Petty is fighting to break Pierce's control of his arms but Pierce is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Petty stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pierce swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pierce tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Matteo Petty is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Pierce closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Petty's guard.
Pierce seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Petty looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Pierce puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Petty wants to get back to full guard but Pierce has mounted him!
Petty is trying desperately to improve position.

Petty slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Pierce has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Pierce with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Pierce trying to mount his opponent but Petty defends it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pierce trying to control but Petty is having none of it.
Matteo Petty has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Corbin Pierce comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Pierce has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
