PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Xavi Yurchon (ranked 2040 p4p, 2010 weight class) and Jacob Song (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yurchon comes to the cage accompanied by X-Men 97 Intro. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xavi Yurchon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jacob Song! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Tiny Johnson and Gwen Towbar.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yurchon closes the distance and pushes Song back into the cage.
Yurchon manages to pull guard.
Song throws a strike but Yurchon rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
 The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Song escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Yurchon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Yurchon avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Song being controlled here, momentarily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Song is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
 That's one minute gone in the round.
Song is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Yurchon showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Yurchon won't allow Song to sweep him here. Yurchon stays in close to Song's body and controls the position. Song looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Yurchon puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Song missing with punches from the bottom.
Yurchon is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Song is trying to get back to full guard.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Song is trying to control but can't.
Song tries to roll over but Yurchon keeps him under control. Still in half guard, Yurchon seems content to control. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Song is looking for a sweep. Yurchon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Yurchon performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Yurchon definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Song has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Yurchon is working away from the top position though.
 The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Yurchon has his foot on Song's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Song works his way back into a safe position though.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Song is looking to work some ground and pound but Yurchon has wrist control. Yurchon seems keen to control Song's posture. Yurchon keeping moving, preventing Song from controlling successfully. Yurchon working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Song. Song throws a big right hand that misses.

 That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Song wants to control from the top but Yurchon keeps moving. Song lands a couple of elbows. Song trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Song landing some decent shots from guard. Song advances position into side control! Yurchon struggling a bit here. Sloppy strikes there by Song. Song throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Song is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Yurchon has escaped the position, nice work there. Yurchon is trying to control Song's posture but Song avoids it. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Xavi Yurchon will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!

Yurchon keeping moving, preventing Song from controlling successfully. Yurchon preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Song distracts Yurchon with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Song cracks Yurchon with a solid left hand. Yurchon has control of Song's left arm, preventing Song from doing any damage. Song working some strikes from top position.

Yurchon working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Song doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Song manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Yurchon controls Song momentarily but Song frees himself. Song landing some decent shots from guard. Song throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Song throwing strikes from guard but Yurchon blocks nicely.
Song drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Song jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Song connects with a couple of short punches. Song is working Yurchon over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Song chips away with some ground and pound.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Song postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Song trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Song trying to control but Yurchon is working from the bottom. Song throws a big elbow that misses. Song working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Yurchon's head. Yurchon is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Yurchon had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Song defends it easily. Song looking to sit in guard and control but Yurchon gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Song throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Song is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Yurchon thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Song throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Yurchon escapes and throws Song's legs to the side, diving into side control! Song tries to bench press Yurchon off him but Yurchon keeps the position.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Yurchon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Song keeps working. Song manages to get back to half guard. Yurchon is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Song is defending against the submission attempts here by Yurchon.
Song actively working from the bottom here. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Song is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Yurchon pulls his head out easily. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Jacob Song will probably get the nod - 10:9. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Song accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Song postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Yurchon is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Song, into his guard.

Oh but Song is tightening it up a little... Yurchon has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Yurchon reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Yurchon taps out! Nice BJJ there by Song!
