PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Graham Grant (ranked 2510 p4p, 23499 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Grant comes to the cage accompanied by Till I Die by MGK. Walay Buut will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Graham Grant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 79 - 71 - 9, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Wagner Zegers and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buut shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Grant sprawls well. Grant wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Buut gets slowly back to his feet.

Grant drives through with a takedown into Buut's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Grant forces his way into half guard.
Grant looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Grant is thwarting Buut's attempts to control the position.
Grant missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nice strikes from Grant there.
Buut blocking the ground and pound attempt from Grant.
Grant winds up and cracks Buut with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Grant throwing shots but Buut is blocking nicely.
Buut trying to control but Grant postures up.
Grant lands strikes from half guard.

Grant looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Grant is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Grant is nestled in close to Buut, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Grant has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Grant looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Grant looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Grant's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Grant is looking for a kimura but Buut is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Grant to get the leverage.
Grant with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grant working Buut over with strikes.
Grant takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Buut trying to control but Grant postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Grant is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Grant seems to be working for a kimura but Buut defends the submission attempt.
Grant uses his free foot to push down on Buut's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Buut.
Buut looks winded!
Grant postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Buut looks a forlorn figure.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Grant throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Buut has his hands clasped together but Grant breaks the hold and Buut is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Grant!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Graham Grant!
After winning the bout, Graham Grant thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
