Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Michael Phillip (ranked 4088 p4p, 4084 weight class) and Aolani Kahananui (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michael Phillip! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Aolani Kahananui! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phillip has closed the distance and engaged Kahananui in a clinch.

Phillip is pushing Kahananui up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Kahananui wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Phillip gets a trip takedown into half guard. Phillip looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Phillip escapes and gets back to his feet. Phillip tries to move into range but Kahananui moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Kahananui lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Kahananui closes the distance and pushes Phillip back into the cage. Phillip lands a good knee to the midsection. Kahananui won't want to take too many of those. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Phillip obliges. Kahananui looks winded!
Phillip has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kahananui uses from the top position. Phillip wants to stand but Kahananui is controlling the position. Kahananui looking to sit in guard and control but Phillip gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

 That's one minute gone in the round. Phillip controls from within his opponent's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Phillip is looking to stand up but Kahananui won't let him. Phillip controlling from the top position. Phillip has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Phillip has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Phillip throws a big right hand that misses. Phillip is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Phillip accidentally thumps the mat. Kahananui is working an open guard so Phillip takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Phillip looks to land a combination but Kahananui avoids it well. Kahananui throws a lazy uppercut
and Phillip makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Kahananui really felt that one! Kahananui misses with a straight right.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Kahananui enables Phillip to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kahananui manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Kahananui can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Phillip controls the pace. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Phillip gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Phillip fails to land with a series of punches.
Kahananui thuds his right hand into Phillip's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Phillip lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kahananui circles away quickly and effectively.
Phillip gets a clinch. Phillip's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Phillip takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Phillip is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Phillip tightens his grip and picks Kahananui up, before dumping him to the ground. Kahananui manages to land in guard.
Phillip decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kahananui, up you get!

Phillip breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Phillip steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Kahananui. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Phillip looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Kahananui is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Phillip scores with a couple of nice shots. Phillip is figuring out what he wants to do next.

 It looks like Aolani Kahananui has been cut. Phillip avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Phillip throws a head kick that Kahananui semi-blocks.

He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Phillip stops Kahananui from standing up.
