Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gavriil Gusev (ranked 2488 p4p, 2720 weight class) and Chase Karlson (ranked 297 p4p, 317 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gavriil Gusev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chase Karlson! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gusev misses with a takedown attempt - Karlson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Jab from Gusev. A big left from Karlson misses. Gusev misses with an uppercut. Karlson saw that one coming. Karlson leaves Gusev with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gusev staying out of range there. A big left from Gusev misses. Karlson is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Gusev looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Gusev slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Karlson working for a triangle but Gusev defends it easily.
Karlson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Karlson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Gusev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Karlson on the ground. Karlson looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Karlson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gusev is aware though and is defending well. Gusev stays in close to Karlson's body and controls the position. Karlson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gusev manages to get himself to full guard.

Karlson throws a strike but Gusev rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Karlson throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Gusev controlling from the top position. Gusev wants to control from the top but Karlson keeps moving. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Karlson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gusev is controlling him.
Gusev drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Karlson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gusev has Karlson in his guard.
Karlson wants to stand and escape but instead Gusev has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

 That's four minutes gone in the round. Gusev looking to pass the guard. Karlson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Karlson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gusev gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Gusev pushing down on Karlson's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Nice strikes from Gusev there. Gusev controlling the action here. Karlson trying to hold on to Gusev's head to control him but Gusev postures up.
Gusev seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Karlson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Gusev looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Karlson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Gusev perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gusev is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Karlson is staying active underneath Gusev, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Karlson trying to hold on to Gusev's head to control him but Gusev postures up.
Gusev is looking to take a break and control but Karlson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Gusev trying to mount his opponent but Karlson defends it. Gusev looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Karlson is looking to control Gusev's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Karlson avoid being mounted?
 The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Gusev gets a clinch.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Karlson gets underhooks to prevent Gusev's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gavriil Gusev. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gusev gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Our spies down at at Canucks Combat Club inform us that Karlson has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Gusev not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Karlson working a defensive guard here.

 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Gusev stopping the sweep attempt from Karlson. Gusev lands a couple of digs. Gusev stands and throws Karlson's legs to the side, diving into side control. Gusev has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Karlson! Karlson tries to reverse the position but Gusev maintains control. Karlson wants to hold on but Gusev pushes him away. Gusev controlling from the full mount. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Karlson is squirming around, avoiding Gusev's attempts to control the action. Gusev raining down shots from the mount!
Gusev has hold of Karlson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Karlson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Gusev looking to control and managing it successfully. Karlson throwing hammer fists to the chest of Gusev. What's that going to do exactly? Karlson wants to hold on but Gusev pushes him away. BOOM! Gusev connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The referee warns Karlson that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Karlson is working to get back to half guard.
Gusev wants to control the pace but Karlson is squirming around nicely. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Gusev looking to finish Karlson with some ground and pound. This is bad for Karlson! And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Gavriil Gusev dominated that round. That's time! Gusev's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Karlson waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Gusev. Gusev looks to throw the jab but Karlson is out of range. Gusev shoots in and drives through. Karlson sprawls well.

Gusev has picked Karlson up - he's going for a ride! Gusev dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Karlson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gusev is working away from the top position though. Nice strikes from Gusev there. Gavriil Gusev overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Gusev seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Karlson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Karlson throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Gusev throws a big right hand that misses. Karlson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gusev is one step ahead there.

Gusev trying to control the position from guard on top but Karlson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Karlson controls Gusev momentarily but Gusev frees himself. Gusev throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Karlson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Karlson is looking for a triangle but Gusev pushes his legs off easily.
Gusev wants to control from the top but Karlson keeps moving.
Gusev drops back, looking for a kneebar! Karlson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Karlson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Karlson!
Karlson creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gusev sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Gusev is looking for a sweep. Karlson tries to stand but Gusev is controlling his head.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Karlson scores with punches from side control. Gusev is trying to control Karlson's posture but Karlson avoids it. Gusev is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Karlson can do to turn this around? Gusev tries to buck Karlson off but Karlson is having none of it. Gusev struggling a bit here. Karlson throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Karlson fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Karlson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gusev keeps working.
Karlson has an Americana. Gusev didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Karlson is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Karlson hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
