Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yurem Bird (ranked 407 p4p, 740 weight class) and Damari Mcknight (ranked 60 p4p, 102 weight class). Yurem Bird could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Damari Mcknight's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yurem Bird!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Damari Mcknight!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Columbo Gatti and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bird throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Mcknight stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Mcknight shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Bird counters with a head kick that drops Mcknight to the mat! Mcknight scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

Mcknight is rocked!
Bird misses with a kick to the body

and Mcknight decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bird's guard.
Mcknight postures up in Bird's guard and throws a big left but Bird blocks it.

Mcknight wants to control from the top but Bird keeps moving.
Bird is adopting a defensive guard.
Mcknight throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bird works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Bird has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Mcknight throws a strike but Bird rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Mcknight is looking for a triangle but Bird pushes his legs off easily.
Bird slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Mcknight looking for a guillotine here but Bird defends easily.

Mcknight looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bird is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mcknight can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bird controls the pace.
Mcknight throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Mcknight gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Mcknight takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mcknight is defended easily by Bird.
It looked like Bird was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Mcknight.
Yurem Bird has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damari Mcknight.

and Bird counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Bird tests Mcknight's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Bird scores with a punch to the head.

Mcknight scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Bird avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Mcknight.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bird regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Mcknight.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Mcknight shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Mcknight throws a strike but Bird rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Mcknight throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Bird seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mcknight lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.

Mcknight trying to hold on to Bird's head to control him but Bird postures up.

Mcknight is desperately trying to improve his position but Bird has a good base and remains in mount.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bird fails to take his opponent's back.
Bird tries to get up but Mcknight was controlling his body and he's reversed into guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mcknight in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Mcknight slips nicely into half guard.
Mcknight not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Mcknight looks to land a strike but Bird avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Mcknight wants to pass the guard but Bird is keeping the position.
Mcknight is looking to work some ground and pound but Bird has wrist control.
Mcknight cracks Bird with a solid left hand.

Mcknight throws an elbow that misses. Bird uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mcknight's guard. Nice move by Bird!

Mcknight throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Bird escapes and throws Mcknight's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Mcknight is trying to control Bird's posture but Bird avoids it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mcknight is trying to get back to half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Yurem Bird will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Bird gets caught flat footed, as Mcknight shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Bird looking for a sweep. Not yet Bird, not yet.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bird is on top in guard.

Mcknight is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mcknight is stalling here. Bird is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Mcknight seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Bird has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That was a close round but Yurem Bird did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Bird misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Mcknight now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Horrible takedown attempt by Mcknight or perhaps it was just good defense by Bird, which made it look bad.
Bird appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Bird rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mcknight moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Yurem Bird is winning the standup battle so far.

and Bird connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Bird lands a big uppercut and Mcknight crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Mcknight looks OK. Bird waves Mcknight back to his feet!

It looks like Damari Mcknight has been cut.

Bird throws a head kick that misses.
Mcknight shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bird but Bird pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Yurem Bird has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damari Mcknight.

Bird sends Mcknight crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Bird is motioning to the referee to let Mcknight up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Mcknight is still on wobbly legs! Can Bird finish him?
Mcknight has his takedown stuffed
and Bird counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Mcknight seems to have recovered his senses.
Mcknight is absolutely dripping with sweat - he looks exhausted.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bird cracks Mcknight with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Mcknight falls to his knees and Bird doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 4, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Yurem Bird!
