Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hamburger Jones (ranked 1175 p4p, 2089 weight class) and John Paul (ranked 152 p4p, 225 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as John Paul enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Hamburger Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Paul!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paulsen Ambrosius and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Paul. Jones does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jones shoots and misses
and Paul cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Jones moves to clinch but Paul breaks away

and Paul counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jones won't be happy with that.
Jones manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Jones is pressing down on Paul's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Paul throwing strikes but missing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jones escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Paul gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Paul must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Paul postures up in Jones's guard and throws a big left but Jones blocks it.

Horrible takedown attempt by Jones or perhaps it was just good defense by Paul, which made it look bad.

Paul lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

A short right from Paul on the inside.
A nice right hand lands inside from Paul.
Jones drops down looking for an ankle pick but Paul pulls his leg out and moves away.
Jones misses the jab.
Paul tries to counter with a clinch but Jones shakes him off and moves away.
A nice inside leg kick there by Paul. That's going to slow Jones down.

Paul misses with a hook. Jones ducked under it nicely.
Jones throws a right and a left that Paul avoids nicely.
Paul tries a quick counter leg kick but Jones is wise to it.

and Jones counters with a nice double leg into side control. Paul won't be happy with that.

Jones is trying to get an arm triangle but Paul is defending well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
You can see the frustration on Paul's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Jones is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Paul is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Paul felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Paul tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Jones wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Paul, who protects the arm well.
Jones has knee on belly momentarily but Paul bucks him off and regains half guard.

Jones is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Paul is just riding it out for now. Jones eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Jones is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Paul is looking to improve his position.

Jones is working for a kimura but Paul is defending it quite comfortably.
Paul has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

John Paul showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

John Paul is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Jones has gone for a leg lock! Paul slips out almost immediately though and dives into Jones's guard.

Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jones tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Paul is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

John Paul comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Paul has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, John Paul was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
