PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jesse Couch (ranked 4047 p4p, 3961 weight class) and Takeshi Takeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jesse Couch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takeshi Takeda!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Couch instigates a clinch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Stalling in the clinch from Takeda.
Takeda swings wildly with an uppercut but Couch uses good head movement to avoid it.
Couch lands with a right to the head.
Couch content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Couch has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Takeda avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Takeda swings away with an uppercut that misses.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Couch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Takeda holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Couch wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Takeda has him pressed against the cage.
Takeda slows down the pace here.
Takeda stalling.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Takeda displaying some good clinch control by pressing Couch up against the cage.

Takeda breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Takeda throws the left hand but Couch avoids the punch easily.

Couch moves into the clinch.

Couch successfully pulls guard.
Takeda looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Couch lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


That's two minutes gone in the round.
Couch advances position into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Couch working the ground and pound but Takeda is defending the strikes.
Takeda trying to remain calm as Couch controls from the top position.
Couch postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Couch is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Takeda looks to move to half guard but instead Couch has passed into mount! Damn!
Couch throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

Couch looking to ground and pound but Takeda is blocking nicely.
Couch controlling the position easily from mount.
Takeda is in a horrible position here. Couch smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Couch with shots to the head and body - Takeda looks very uncomfortable down there.

Takeda defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Couch.
Takeda tries to hold on but Couch pushes him away.
Takeda really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Couch. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Couch controlling the position easily from mount.
Takeda holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Couch tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jesse Couch dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Takeda throws a shot from downtown. Couch moves away and avoids it.
Couch tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Takeda swivels and escapes.
Horrible takedown attempt by Couch or perhaps it was just good defense by Takeda, which made it look bad.
Couch uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Takeda.
Couch feinted with a counter takedown.
Takeda looks to score with a jab to the body but Couch is just out of range.
Nice sprawl there from Takeda as Couch shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jesse Couch. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Takeda scores with a jab to the body.
Couch slips under a jab.
Couch fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Takeda misses with a hook
and Couch counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Couch drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

It looks like Jesse Couch has been cut.
Takeda throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Couch counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Good shot there by Takeda.

Takeda cracks Couch with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Takeda has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Couch to stand back up!

Couch is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Takeda lands a slapping body shot.
Oh Couch is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Takeda pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Couch shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Takeda as he avoids it easily.
Takeda now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Takeda cracks Couch with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Couch tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Takeda pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Couch is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:15 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Takeshi Takeda!
After the fight, Takeshi Takeda was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
