Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Da Jiang (ranked 15 p4p, 48 weight class) and Curtis Rome (ranked 2 p4p, 7 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 10 - 3, fighting out of New York, Da Jiang!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 26 - 3, fighting out of Amsterdam, Curtis Rome!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jiang doesn't manage to clinch there - Rome circles away.
Rome swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Rome takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Rome will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Rome walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

It looks like Curtis Rome has been cut.

Rome closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jiang quickly recovers to half guard.
Jiang is looking to get back to is feet but Rome passes into side control.

Rome is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jiang is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Rome is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jiang is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rome thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Rome is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jiang knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Rome goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Jiang rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Rome's guard! Nice work there by Jiang!

Rome is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Rome is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jiang is aware though and is defending well.

Rome has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jiang can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Jiang would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Jiang knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rome on the ground.

Jiang stands up from Rome's guard - Jiang perhaps looking for a knockout.
Curtis Rome seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rome shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Rome tries for a takedown but Jiang circles away easily

and Jiang counters by moving into the clinch.
Da Jiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Curtis Rome.
Rome has Jiang pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jiang manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Jiang is working Rome over against the cage.
Rome is trying to drag Jiang to the mat but Jiang just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Jiang lands a left hand that snaps the head of Rome backwards.
Rome is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Jiang to keep the fight standing.
Rome drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Jiang gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Rome is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Jiang pulls him back up using the underhooks.
I was talking to Jiang's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Jiang lands a nice shot to the body.
Jiang landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Rome looks winded!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jiang stalling the fight.
Jiang's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Jiang prevents the takedown attempt.

Rome pulls guard.

Rome looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Jiang gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Jab from Rome.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jiang with the inside leg kick.
Rome takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Jiang drops Rome with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Rome looks back up at him and smiles so Jiang waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Jiang moves into the clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Da Jiang dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Curtis Rome's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Rome tries for a takedown but Jiang circles away easily
and Jiang connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Jiang chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Rome doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Jiang cracks Rome with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Rome is rocked!
Jiang is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rome can do to turn this around?
Rome has a takedown stuffed.
Jiang seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Rome is still on wobbly legs! Can Jiang finish him?
Rome is holding his hands too far apart here. Jiang throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! Rome is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Da Jiang!
Da Jiang retains his lightweight title!
A relieved looking Da Jiang thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
