Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jamal Oneill (ranked 4061 p4p, 2011 weight class) and Thiago Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jamal Oneill! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Thiago Mendes! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Anthony Taglia and John Roberts.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oneill misses with an uppercut
and Mendes counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mendes. Mendes wants to pass the guard but Oneill is keeping the position.
Mendes drops back, looking for a kneebar! Oneill looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Oneill looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Oneill!
Mendes is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Mendes struggling a bit here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mendes is working to avoid the ground and pound but Oneill connects with a decent elbow. Oneill in side control lands a decent elbow. An elbow from Oneill crashes against the mat.
Mendes manages to work his way to half guard, despite Oneill's best efforts. Oneill knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mendes on the ground. Oneill drops an elbow to the side of Mendes's head.

 That's one minute gone in the round. Mendes is trying to get back to full guard. Mendes is still trying to improve position. Mendes preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Mendes actively working from the bottom here. Mendes wants to improve his position but Oneill is controlling well.
Mendes is refusing to be controlled, as Oneill sits in half guard. Oneill thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Mendes wants to get back to full guard. Oneill not landing any meaningful shots this time. Oneill throwing shots but Mendes is blocking nicely.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Oneill keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Mendes slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mendes is on top in guard.
Mendes is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Mendes sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Oneill's guard.
Mendes is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Still in half guard, Mendes seems content to control.
Mendes is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Oneill sees it coming and defends easily. Oneill tries to roll over but Mendes keeps him under control.

Mendes is trying to control. Oneill wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Mendes seems to be working for a kimura but Oneill defends the submission attempt. Oneill won't allow Mendes to pass to mount. Mendes prevents Oneill from improving his position.
Mendes looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

 That's four minutes gone in the round. Mendes perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Oneill is refusing to be controlled, as Mendes sits in half guard. Oneill wants to improve his position but Mendes is controlling well.
Mendes trying to control the action but Oneill is working from the bottom. Oneill on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Oneill tries to get out of the position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mendes is looking to take a break and control but Oneill is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Thiago Mendes dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Oneill misses with an uppercut
and Mendes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Oneill's guard. Mendes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Mendes trying to control the position from guard on top but Oneill is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mendes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Mendes slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Mendes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mendes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mendes throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Mendes trying to control but Oneill is working from the bottom. Mendes stands and throws Oneill's legs to the side, diving into side control.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Oneill gets back to half guard. Mendes prevents Oneill from improving his position. Oneill manages to get to full guard.
Oneill keeping moving, preventing Mendes from controlling successfully. Mendes is stalling in the full guard. Oneill keeping full guard, as Mendes tries to pass.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Mendes stopping the sweep attempt from Oneill. Mendes slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Mendes remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Mendes is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Oneill has escaped the position, nice work there.
Mendes is working to tighten his grip on Oneill's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Oneill has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Mendes is really squeezing tight and eventually Oneill passes out! Mendes breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
