PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Edwin Hernandez (ranked 1347 p4p, 1483 weight class) and Enuardo James (ranked 112 p4p, 120 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Edwin Hernandez has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Edwin Hernandez seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edwin Hernandez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Enuardo James!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James scores with a jab.
Hernandez seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Enuardo James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hernandez closes this distance looking for a takedown but James circles away.

James takes the fight into the clinch.

James's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
James bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Hernandez's head backwards.
James connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
James lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Good exchange - James coming out on top.

James throws a jab but it's blocked by Hernandez.
Hernandez tries to counter with a takedown but James is quick to defend against it.

James has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
James lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Hernandez shoots in but James avoids the takedown attempt easily.
James might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Hernandez appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Hernandez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but James defends well and Hernandez ends up having to push James into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if James can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hernandez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hernandez stands up over James, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hernandez lands a nice short elbow.
Hernandez slips a nice elbow through James's hands, connecting with James's forehead.
James is looking for a sweep. Hernandez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
James really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hernandez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

James makes his way to full guard. A much better position for James.

Hernandez keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of James's head.

James is rocked!
James wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Enuardo James dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Hernandez shoots in looking for a takedown. James tries to sprawl out of it but Hernandez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. James manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

James has managed to clinch.
Hernandez has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. James avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

James buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

This has been an exciting period of action!
James lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
A slapping leg kick lands for James.
Hernandez is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts James, as that shot connected.
James swings widly with a right hand

and Hernandez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in James's guard.
James has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
James is breathing heavily.
Hernandez stands and throws James's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Hernandez is working James over with some ground and pound from side control.
James is looking for a sweep.

Hernandez is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. James is trying to escape and Hernandez transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and James is forced to tap! Nice work there by Hernandez! Very nice indeed!
