This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 68 wins and 71 losses; Ceph Alopodis! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 18 wins and 22 losses; Klaas Jan Tijhoff! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Eddie Farnsworth and Joseph Jones.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Tijhoff gets the takedown into side control. Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Alopodis (0) vs (4) Tijhoff Tijhoff moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alopodis is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now. Alopodis is looking for a sweep. Alopodis's coaches at Xtreme Fighting Gym have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tijhoff wants to control but Alopodis is keeping him busy. Alopodis is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Tijhoff wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alopodis keeps working.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Tijhoff is thwarting Alopodis's attempts to control the position. Alopodis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Tijhoff's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Tijhoff's back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Alopodis (4) vs (4) Tijhoff Alopodis has good solid back control here. Alopodis avoiding Tijhoff 's attempts to control his hands.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Good control from Alopodis. Alopodis has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Alopodis is not going to allow Tijhoff to sit and survive in this position. Tijhoff is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Alopodis.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. This is a sustained period of stalling by Alopodis. Tijhoff looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Alopodis continues to hold on tight.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Alopodis controlling well, preventing Tijhoff from escaping the position.

Alopodis controls the position. Tijhoff looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Alopodis controls the action. Alopodis's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Alopodis is not going to allow Tijhoff to sit and survive in this position. You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
You can see the frustration on Tijhoff's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

What can Tijhoff do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Tijhoff tries to escape but Alopodis has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Alopodis has good solid back control here. Alopodis gets his hands free as Tijhoff looks to control. A bit of a pause in the action here. Alopodis controlling the positon.
 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Tijhoff turns into Alopodis and is now in his guard.
Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Alopodis (4) vs (6) Tijhoff Tijhoff wants to control from the top but Alopodis keeps moving. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alopodis has Tijhoff pulled in close to control his posture.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Alopodis wants to sweep here but Tijhoff controlling him for the moment. Alopodis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Alopodis (6) vs (6) Tijhoff Alopodis is thwarting Tijhoff's attempts to control the position. Tijhoff wants to improve his position but Alopodis is controlling well.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Alopodis moves nicely into side control. Score +3 for passing guard: Alopodis (9) vs (6) Tijhoff Alopodis takes a little break here. Tijhoff wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Alopodis seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Tijhoff for as long as he can get away with. Tijhoff tries to bench press Alopodis off him but Alopodis keeps the position. Alopodis happy to just control the position for now. Tijhoff tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Alopodis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that's the end of the fight! Alopodis takes the fight on points by 9 to 6. Jumping up and down and very excited, Ceph Alopodis waved his t-shirt featuring Urban Fighter's logo in front of the cameras. |
