PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mr Sandman (ranked 246 p4p, 1455 weight class) and Timothy Spence (ranked 36 p4p, 179 weight class). Spence has chosen He's A Mental Giant as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 13 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mr Sandman! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 11 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Timothy Spence! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Matti Vanhoillinen.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Spence throws a looping overhand right but Sandman ducks down to avoid it.
Sandman instigates a clinch. Sandman misses with a hook from the clinch. A short right from Sandman on the inside. Sandman keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Spence's efforts to push away.
Spence is fighting off a takedown attempt but Sandman is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Spence to the mat. Spence regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Sandman won't allow Spence to get back to his feet. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Sandman with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Sandman lands a couple of elbows. Sandman passes Spence's left leg - he's now in half guard. Spence is trying to stand up here but Sandman is controlling him well. Sandman is controlling the pace.
Sandman is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Spence is in trouble now - Sandman has advanced to mount! Sandman lands a nice shot to the head.
 Spence is rocked! Spence really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sandman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Sandman postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Spence in real trouble here! The ref calls for Spence to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mr Sandman! Mr Sandman retains his light heavyweight title! An out of breath Mr Sandman thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
