Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Emilio Ortega (ranked 2034 p4p, 3035 weight class) and Renaldo Chang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Emilio Ortega!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Renaldo Chang!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chang swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Ortega counters with a three punch combo that has Chang backing up. Chang nods at Ortega to acknowledge the strikes.
Chang doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
No joy there for Ortega, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Chang walks into a left hand.
Ortega connects with a body shot.
Chang has his takedown stuffed
and Ortega counters with a nice uppercut.
Chang has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Ortega moves into range and clinches up with Chang.

Ortega is pushing down on Chang's leg trying to pass to half guard. Chang is fighting to maintain full guard but Ortega has managed to sneak the leg through.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ortega connects with a nice short shot to Chang's temple.

Chang really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ortega. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ortega passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Chang!
Chang tries to reverse the position but Ortega maintains control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ortega seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Chang for as long as he can get away with.

Chang wants to control but Ortega is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Ortega working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Ortega shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ortega was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
